3004 B.C., Mesopotamia
In the ancient land of Mesopotamia, where the rivers flowed with life-giving waters and the fertile plains stretched as far as the eye could see, Y/n, the fallen angel turned human, found herself on a journey of rediscovery. The memories of her celestial past had faded like distant constellations, replaced by the vivid experiences of a mortal existence.
It was during this time, in the shadow of a colossal ark that would soon set sail to rescue the world's creatures from a great flood, that Y/n's path crossed with two enigmatic figures: Crawley and Aziraphale.
It was a day like any other when Y/n stumbled upon the construction site of a colossal wooden ark. The massive vessel, standing tall against the arid landscape, was the work of a righteous man named Noah, who had received divine guidance to save the creatures of the Earth from an impending cataclysm.
Y/n watched in awe as animals of all shapes and sizes were guided onto the ark, their instincts sensing the impending disaster. She marveled at the harmony of the creatures, each taking their place without question, as if the divine order still held sway even in this mortal realm.
Amidst the crowd, Y/n stood alone, a stranger in a strange land. She had no memory of her celestial nature, no understanding of the cosmic forces that had led her here. Her eyes, once filled with the wisdom of the ages, now sparkled with a childlike wonder.
It was in this moment of uncertainty that her eyes landed on two figures before her, their presence as enigmatic as it was contrasting. The first was a man with tousled ginger hair, dressed in dark clothes that seemed oddly out of place in this ancient time. He had an air of nonchalance, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.
The second figure, standing beside him, was a man with a refined demeanor and a penchant for fine clothes. He exuded an air of elegance and grace that seemed more suited to a royal court than a dusty construction site.
As she watched the two strange men, a commotion stirred behind her. The two turned to focus on the disturbance, Y/n quickly shifted her gaze, hoping that they hadn't noticed her staring. However, one of them had noticed and the dark man's eyes rested on Y/n. She could feel his gaze resting on her back, it was heavy with curiosity and seemed to pierce the air. He nudged his associate, alerting the other man of her presence.
The dark man, Crawley, the demon with the serpent's charm and a fondness for bending the rules of heaven and hell, had always been intrigued by the peculiarities of humanity. He had a sense for the extraordinary, and there was something about Y/n that piqued his curiosity. He had observed her from afar, drawn by the air of otherworldly grace that surrounded her.
His partner, Aziraphale, the celestial guardian with a heart that had remained as steadfast as the heavens, was inherently drawn to the presence of beings who had strayed from the divine path. He sensed a lingering celestial essence in Y/n, a trace of something familiar that stirred his celestial instincts.
The men made their way over to Y/n, Aziraphale gliding gracefully, while Crawley strutted with a sense of mischeif.
"Excuse me," Aziraphale began, his voice carrying a tone of gentle curiosity, "you seem rather lost, my dear. Are you a traveler passing through this land?"
Y/n turned, her gaze flitting between the two intriguing strangers, nodded slowly. "I am, and I... I am searching for something, though I know not what."
Crawley, a mischievous glint in his eyes, leaned in closer. "Well, isn't that interesting? Lost souls often find what they're looking for in the most unexpected places."
Aziraphale, sensing the depth of Y/n's inner turmoil, offered her a warm smile. "You are not alone, my dear. We are all on a journey of discovery, seeking answers to questions we may not fully understand. Perhaps we could help you."
Y/n nodded in agreement, thankful for his offer. The Angel smiled brightly at her again, "I'm Aziraphale. And this bright young chap is-"
"Crawley." The demon interjected, his eyes locked on the scene before them.
She looked between the two men, her gaze finally resting on Aziraphale, "I'm Y/n, it's lovely to meet you both." she smiled sweetly at him.
The unlikely trio stood on the banks of the swelling Euphrates River. Crawley, the wily demon with his usual veneer of nonchalance, surveyed the scene with a raised eyebrow. Aziraphale, the celestial guardian, looked on with a mix of duty and concern. Between them, the mortal Y/n, whose life had become intertwined with celestial events she could scarcely comprehend, stood in wide-eyed wonder.
Y/n turned to Aziraphale, her eyes reflecting a curiosity and vulnerability, "What's all this about?" she queried the angel.
Crawley, his ineffable eyes scanning the horizon, remarked in his typical sardonic tone, "She's got a point. Build a big boat and fill it with a travelling zoo? What's up with that?"
The angel regarded the Ark with a sense of purpose and solemnity, "From what I hear, God's a bit tetchy. Wiping out the human race. Big storm."
"All of them?" The demon quizzed, his eyebrow arching with raised interest.
As they bantered, the rain began to fall with increasing intensity. The celestial heavens wept, mirroring the turmoil on Earth.
Aziraphale sighed, adjusting his celestial attire as a drizzle fell from the leaden skies. "Just the locals. I don't believe the Almighty's upset with the Chinese. Or the Native Americans. Or the Australians. Yet." He paused, thinking. The angel pointed up at the boat, smiling, "And God's not actually going to wipe out all the locals. I mean, Noah, up there, his family, his sons, their wives, they're all going to be fine." he said dubiously.
As they spoke, the massive Ark, a testament to human devotion and divine command, loomed large before them. Animals of every kind marched toward the vessel in pairs, their instinct for survival guiding them toward salvation
"But they're drowning everyone else?" Y/n asked skeptically.
Crawley turned around suddenly, his eyes landing on the goats, "Not the kids. You can't kill kids!" He whipped back to his companions, "That's more the sort of thing you'd expect my lot to do."
Aziraphale smiled nervously, "Yes, but when it's done, the Almighty's going to put up a new thing, called a 'rain bow', as a promise not to drown everyone again."
Y/n, the mortal caught in the celestial crossfire, watched the debate between the angel and demon with a mixture of fascination and unease. She had been thrust into a world of cosmic forces beyond her comprehension, a world where angels and demons discussed the fate of humanity as if it were a celestial chess match.
"Oy! Shem!" Crawley yelled suddenly, pulling Y/n out of her trance, "That unicorn's going to make a run for it." he continued, pointing at the escaping animal. They watched as the animal disappeared into the distance, "Oh, it's too late. It's too late!"
"Well, you've still got one of them." Crawley shouted at the shepherd. Y/n held back a giggle as she realised that the demon clearly didn't understand how repopulation worked.
As Y/n continued to converse with her new friends, Crawley and Aziraphale, she felt an inexplicable connection with them, as if they were kindred spirits on a similar quest for meaning. Little did she know that the celestial and infernal forces that had brought her to this place were entwined with the fates of these two enigmatic beings.
In that moment, as the rain continued to fall and the world around them teetered on the brink of transformation, the three of them stood together gazing up at Noah's Ark; a mortal, a cunning demon, and an angel. Their destinies converged in this ancient land, where the line between heaven and earth blurred, and the story of humanity's salvation was written in the rain-soaked pages of time.
