28 minutes to the End of the World
Crowley manoeuvred the blazing Bentley through the winding roads leading to Tadfield. The once-sleek vehicle had seen better days, with flames licking at its sides and a trail of smoke in its wake.
They came upon a lone man walking by the roadside, and with a screeching halt, Crowley pulled the car over, sparks and flames trailing behind them. The pedestrian, a bewildered look on his face, watched as the demonic car approached, billowing smoke and flames. Despite the bizarre sight, he hesitated but then decided to approach when Crowley leaned out the window, and Y/N flashed him a smile.
"Excuse me," Crowley called out, sounding unusually polite for a demon. "Could you give us directions to Tadfield Airbase?"
The man hesitated momentarily, clearly startled by the sight of the flaming Bentley and Crowley's unorthodox approach. But a deeper urgency in Crowley's expression conveyed that time was of the essence.
With a quick nod, the man stammered, "Y-yeah, sure. You head down this road, take a left at the next intersection, then follow the signs. It's not too far."
With that, Crowley accelerated the Bentley, tires squealing as they sped off in the direction of Tadfield Airbase, determined to face whatever awaited them in the final moments before Armageddon.
.......
Y/N and Crowley pulled the flaming Bentley to a screeching halt just outside the gates of Tadfield Airbase. The iconic sound of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" still blared from the car's speakers as they hastily exited the vehicle, leaving the blazing wreck behind.
As they approached the gate, they spotted Aziraphale, currently inhabiting Madam Tracy, and Seargent Shadwell engaged in an intense discussion with an army officer guarding the entrance. Crowley couldn't resist the urge to disrupt their conversation, and with a mischievous grin, he yelled out, "Hey Aziraphale! I see you found a ride!"
Startled, Aziraphale and Shadwell turned to see Y/N and Crowley approaching, the fiery Bentley crackling in the background. The absurdity of the situation wasn't lost on anyone, and for a moment, all conversation was put on hold as they gazed at the inferno.
Once the initial shock wore off, Y/N couldn't help but comment on Aziraphale's outfit. "Nice dress. Suits you," she said with a smirk, casting a playful glance at Aziraphale in Madam Tracy's attire.
Aziraphale blinked in mild confusion and then realised Y/N was referring to Madam Tracy's clothing. He cleared his throat, adjusting the floral dress and headscarf, looking rather uncomfortable in the attire.
As they reached the gate, the formidable guard, arms crossed, sternly blocked their path. Crowley, ever the persuasive one, took the lead. "Army human, my friend and I have come a long way, and-"
Before the guard could respond, the massive metal gate began to creak and groan. It slowly and eerily swung open all by itself, leaving the guard gaping in disbelief.
"Which one of you did that?" the flabbergasted guard stammered, his voice trembling.
The group exchanged bewildered glances, none of them claiming responsibility for the gate's strange opening. A young group of children on their bikes cycled past them into the Airbase. As Adam and the Them passed them, their youthful enthusiasm shining through, they rang their bells and waved at Y/N, who returned their cheerful greeting with a warm smile. These kids had become a significant part of her life, a connection to humanity she treasured.
Turning her attention back to Crowley, Y/N saw the astonishment in his eyes. "You know those kids?" he asked, disbelief colouring his voice.
Y/N nodded, her smile still present. "I babysit them. They're really good kids."
However, the moment was short-lived. The security guard suddenly sprinted after the kids, leaving Y/N, Crowley, Aziraphale, and Sergeant Shadwell alone outside the Airbase's entrance.
Just then, the Bentley, still ablaze, exploded with a deafening roar, flames and debris raining down around them. Crowley sank to the ground in anguish, gazing at the burning wreck of his beloved car.
Y/N watched him with empathy, her eyes welling up with a mixture of sadness and understanding. In that moment, a memory stirred within her.
.......
As I stood alongside the Almighty, a witness to the divine creation of the Earth, each day was an awe-inspiring testament to the boundless power of God. The first day brought forth the formless Earth, emerging with a fiery blast from the darkness of the void. It was a canvas waiting for the Master Artist's touch.
On the second day, God crafted the atmosphere, separating the celestial waters above from the terrestrial sky below. The sky stretched out, embracing the world, painting it with hues of blue and white. It was the expanse through which life would breathe.
Day three was a symphony of life, as God called forth the plants and oceans into existence. Each species was meticulously designed, and I watched as Eden, a paradise untouched by time, was lovingly shaped by the Creator's hands. The world began to take shape, and beauty unfurled before our eyes.
With the arrival of day four, the moon became Earth's faithful companion, illuminating the nights with its gentle glow. God guided our planet to its rightful place in the Milky Way, among a sea of stars. Our tiny blue planet was but a grain of sand in a cosmic desert.
The fifth day bore witness to the graceful flight of birds and the mysterious depths of the sea, as God called forth creatures to inhabit the air and water. My heart swelled with pride as I recognised my own handiwork among the many living beings, a testament to the love that permeated every corner of this world.
On the sixth day, God filled the land with a multitude of creatures. Animals of every shape and size, from the tiniest insects to the mightiest beasts, roamed the Earth. And in the final act of divine creation, God lovingly breathed life into the humans I had created, shaping them in Her own image.
Finally, on the seventh day, God and I beheld our creation with joy and love. The beauty and wonder of the Earth stretched out before us, teeming with life and potential. It was then that God spoke to me, revealing my purpose in this grand design. She called me the Guardian of Souls, entrusting me with the task of shepherding the souls of Earth.
In that sacred moment, I understood the profound responsibility that lay before me. As I watched over the burgeoning life on Earth, I vowed to protect and guide the souls that resided within all living creatures. It was a promise that would be upheld throughout the ages, a testament to the enduring connection between God, me, and the world we had so lovingly created.
.......
The chaos of their situation snapped Y/N back to reality. The guard, confused by the sudden explosion, returned and pointed his gun at the group, sending a wave of panic through their ranks. Aziraphale's voice rose, calling on Crowley to act. But as the mournful demon continued to grieve his fiery, beloved car, it was Aziraphale who needed to step up, his determination fueled by their dire circumstances.
In a bold move, Shadwell advanced on the guard, his finger outstretched and pointed, as if expecting to send the man into nonexistence just as he had with Aziraphale. But just as before, it was Aziraphale who intervened. With a forceful command, he made the guard vanish, leaving Shadwell puzzled as he stared at his finger, convinced he had performed the miraculous feat.
In the midst of the chaos, Y/N acted quickly. She seized Crowley and dragged him up from the ground, his grief momentarily set aside in the face of immediate danger. With an assertive call to the group to hurry up, they piled into the military jeep. Y/N took the wheel, her grip steady and determined as she accelerated the jeep towards the Tarmac.
