"Hello?"
Alix hums and sips her wine, "I didn't think you'd actually answer".
The person on the the other end lets out a soft chuckle. Alix can hear them getting up and moving around.
"I'm not an asshole"
"That's debatable"
"Okay, touché. I'm not always an asshole. And I always answer your calls"
"Mm you do have your sweet moments"
Alix takes a sip of wine, hearing the person on the other end of the call sigh.
"Are you okay?"
"Why wouldn't I be okay?"
"Alix...I know you"
"You knew me"
"Alix...."
Alix sighs, sitting her wine down. Pinching the bridge of her nose.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have called you-"
"Stop. You know you can always call me. What's going on?"
"Nothing", sighing softly. Alix swirls her glass, watching was the liquid dances around in the glass.
"If that was true....you wouldn't have called me. Are you still out?"
"No. Dinner....ended. And I'm back at the hotel"
"Okay? So...what happened at dinner?"
With a soft shrug and a hum, Alix gets up and walks back over to the table, pouring more wine.
"What makes you think something happened at dinner?"
"I can hear you pouring wine", they let out a soft chuckle.
Alix looks down and curses silently.
"How goes the paper grading?"
"Trying to deflect, I see" Alix hears them sit down, "Alix...whats really going on? Something must have happened for you to call me"
"I-"
"And don't blame it on the amount of wine you've had. Talk to me babe. What's going on?"
Babe...oh god, Alix could feel the tears starting to fill her eyes. She swallows softly and clears her throat.
"It's stupid", she replies softly, "I'm just" Alix trails off as she stares out the window.
"Alix, if it's bothering you, it isn't stupid"
With a soft sniffle, Alix wipes her nose and hums.
"No it is, its stupid. El was right", shaking her head as the tears fall silently, "It's been almost 5 years, I should be over this".
"Alix-"
"No" sniffles, wiping her nose and eyes "I'm sorry I shouldn't have called you. Just forget I did"
"Alix, wait-"
With a soft sigh, Alix ends the call and tosses her phone on the bed. She cries softly, laying on the bed hugging a pillow. Watching as her phone rings, ignoring the call. Why did she have to call her? Why, after all this time is she still hung up on someone who all but killed her? Alix sighs as the tears slowly stop flowing, watching as her phone lights up again. Sighing, she puts her phone on do not disturb. Six missed calls, and 10 texts, she was persistent. Groaning Alix rolls over, covering her face. Remembering that she had lectures for the next two days, why did she ever agree to come back here. Sighing softly she watches out her window, seeing the city alive and bustling. Not paying any attention to the time, just watching the orchestra of lights outside. Alix hears a knock on her door. She sits up and reaching for her phone: 10:15 p.m., who was knocking on her door at this hour. Texting Shay:
"Are you outside my door?"
"No?"
"Is el?"
"Considering El is in the shower, no. Did you order room service?"
"Not that I remember"
"Oh god, how much wine did you have? Lol"
Alix sighs and gets up, walking over to the door and looking out the peephole. Slightly shocked, she opens the door.
"What are you doing here?"
Becca looks at her softly
"You weren't answering your phone"
Alix looks at her confused and then remembers, motioning for her to come in.
"Um, yeah. I put it on do not disturb"
She shuts the door once the woman walks in. Becca hums softly and leans against the table. Alix sighs softly, then looks down, very aware of the fact she isn't wearing pants. She hurries over and grabs a pair of shorts and slides them on.
"How did you find me?"
Becca hums, trying not to watch Alix. Lightly tapping her fingers on the tables edge.
"I may have called Shay" speaking softly.
Alix looks at her with wide eyes, shocked.
"You called Shay?! Becca" Alix lets out a low groan.
"What was I supposed to do? You stopped answering your phone".
Alix groans, sitting on the bed holding her head in her hands. Knowing that Shay was going to give her shit for this in the morning. Becca gently pushes off the table, couching in front of Alix, lightly rubbing her thumb over her knee. Sighing softly, Alix looks up at Becca, seeing all the emotions in those beautiful chocolate eyes.
"Alix..., talk to me" she says softly.
Sighing softly, Alix scans Becca's features. Fidgeting with her fingers she looks down. Becca notices and lightly covers the younger woman's hands with her own. A ring catches Alix's eye, a ring that she had given to her lover years ago; a pear shaped moss agate. Lightly rubbing her thumb over it, Alix whispers*
"You still have this?"
Becca hums and smiles softly, trying to catch Alix's eye.
"I never take it off."
"Why?"
"Why what?"
Alix sighs and looks at Becca, fighting the urge to close the space and kiss the woman in front of her*
"Becca, why are you here", Alix asks barely above a whisper. Reaching up and tucking a loose strand of hair behind the her ear, Becca lightly wipes Alix's tear stained cheeks with her thumbs*
"Because hearing you cry earlier broke my heart", taking a breath, "and I wanted to make sure you were okay".
Alix looks down and smiles weakly, rubbing her thumb over the ring again. Swallowing the lump in her throat, speaking softly*
"I appreciate it but-"
Becca interrupts before she can finish.
"No 'buts' Alix. I know you hate me and I don't blame you-"
"I don't hate you" Alix sniffles as fresh tears fall "I tried...but I can't".
Watching Alix cry, broke Becca's heart all over again. She thought hearing the woman she loved cry was bad, but seeing her cry was 1000x worse. Without thinking, she wipes Alix's tears with her thumbs and leans in, connecting their lips in a soft kiss.
God Alix has missed the softness of these lips, the way they fit perfectly with her own. Kissing her back slowly, Alix lets out a soft sigh when Becca pulls back.
Gently pressing their foreheads together, Alix reaches up and cups Becca's cheek. Becca sighs as she covers Alix's hand with her own, speaking softly.
"We need to talk"
