Chapter 26

Becca can hear Shay talking to her as she drives, but it sounds muffled. The sound of her heartbeat pounding in her ears.
Pulling into a parking spot, Becca lays her head back and takes a couple deep breaths.
"Hey" Shay says softly, laying a hand on her arm.
Humming softly, she looks over.
"Everything is going to be fine...Drew has it handled"
"Drew?"
Shay chuckles and shakes her head, "you didn't hear a word I said did you?"
Becca nervously bites her bottom lip and shakes her head.
"Becca...breathe. Come on. I'll introduce you to Drew"

The two ladies get out of the car and make their way into the building. Shay walks a couple steps ahead of Becca. Shay squeals when she sees Drew, wrapping him in a hug.
Becca makes a surprised face when Shay kisses him.
"Babe, this is Becca. Becca, this is my husband Drew"
Drew extends his hand, Becca shakes it and smiles politely.
"Hi"
"Hi. Im assuming Shay explained why I'm here"
"She did" Becca looks at Shay then at Drew.
Shay sighs, "He's a lawyer"
"Wait...why do I need a lawyer?"
"Because, what the Dean did the first time was illegal. What you didn't know back then" Shay adjust her bag, "Alix went to a professor she trusted and asked for advice. They sent her to HR"
Becca looks at Shay confused, "Wait....HR knew?"
Shay nods. The trio makes their way upstairs.
"And that's where Drew comes in. HR will be there as well. Remember having a meeting with them and signing papers?"
"Vaguely..." Becca says cautiously
Shay hums and looks at her, "that's why Alix was never in class when you gave an exam. She made arrangements to take the exam earlier OR with another professor present"
Drew hums, "Alix was smart about it. Kept documents and notes on everything". He hands Becca the file to look over, she flips through it and closes it.
"Wait. Back up" she takes a breath, "Alix...did all of this?"
Shay nods and hums, "She wanted to protect you. In case anything like this happened".

Becca sighs and opens the door to the deans office, checking in.
"Hi Kelly...I'm here for a 3 o'clock"
"Of course Dr Blake...take a seat" she smiles politely and lets the Dean know she's here.
The three take their seats. Drew passes Becca a piece of paper, "the snitch turned you in so they wouldn't be suspended for cheating".
Becca's eyes go wide and she looks at Drew whispering, "Is this legit? How'd you find out?"
He whispers back, "I asked for the HR file on you and Alix. The clerk let it slip that there was more to the file and gave me the whole thing. The dean tried to hide it".
He pats his briefcase and smile, "Don't worry. She can't do anything...and will probably be fired this afternoon".
Kelly stands up and opens the door, "The Dean is ready for you".
"Thank you"
Becca stands up and Drew follows behind her. Shay hums and watches as Kelly sits back down.
"Can I get you anything Dr Bower?"
"Oh no thank you. I'm good" she smiles softly.

El watches as Alix works on her laptop, "is it a good idea to...you know do that when you're stressed?"
Alix looks at El and sighs softly, "I'm not working"
"Bullllll shhhhhiiiitttt"
Alix chuckles and rolls her eyes. She shuts her laptop and gets up, grabbing her running sneakers and lacing them up.
"Oh come on" El whines, "running? Really? Shay and Becca would kill me if I didn't go with you"
Chuckling softly, Alix looks up at El "come on. There's a treadmill, couch and TV downstairs. You can catch me up on shows while I run".
El hums as she weighs the idea, going to grab a drink and Alix a water, "you have your smart moments".
Alix chuckles and takes the water that El hands to her. "I'll be downstairs" she scurries down and thuds at the bottom, "ow! Watch out for the weights on the floor!"
Sighing softly Alix checks her phone, nothing. She texts Becca
-You doing okay?
Watching to see if a read receipt happens, sighing softly when it doesn't. Alix heads downstairs and watches as El queues up the show. Getting on the treadmill and stretching.
El hums and plops down, "okay, we have like 3 episodes on this show. Is that enough running time for you?"
"El that's 3 hours" Alix chuckles, "I'll be fine after one"
El looks over at Alix as she stretches and starts the treadmill.
"You know it'll be okay, right?"
"Can you just hit play please?"
El hits play as Alix slowly speeds up the treadmill, putting in her earbuds. El looks over after asking a question, noticing Alix in her own world. Sighing softly she puts on the subtitles.
-Any updates?
-They're still in the office, nothing yet. How's Alix doing?
El takes a sneaky video and sends it to Shay.

-Don't let her do more than an hour. Unplug it if you have to

-Warn her before you unplug it 😂 geez
-You're no fun. Tell drew I said hi.

El puts her phone down after setting a timer. Humming as she watches the show
