Chapter 27

In the Dean's office

Becca sighs and puts on a polite smile as she walks in the office, Drew right behind her. Dean Walters stands up and shakes Becca's hand.
"Please take a seat", looking at Becca then Drew, "And you are?"
"I'm Andrew Shepard, Dr. Blakes lawyer"
"Lawyer? Becca this is hardly necessary-"
"With all due respect" Drew interjects, "this is very necessary. Especially with what we assume you want to discuss with my client"
Dean Walters looks between Becca and Drew, humming softly as she walks around her desk and sitting back down.
"Fine, I'll call HR and a representative-"
"Oh no need. They are on their way up" Drew says as he sits down, unbuttoning his jacket.
The dean looks slightly surprised and nods, "Alright then".
Becca swallows the lump in her throat and tries not to fidget, rubbing the band of her ring with her thumb.

After a couple minutes Kelly opens the door allowing HR, Stacey McGee, and the university president, Dr. Nettles, to come in. After acknowledging everyone in the room, they take their seats. Dr Nettles sighs and looks at Dean Walters, "I'm here as a university representative, Ms. McGee has filled me in along with Mr. Shepard. So.." motioning for the meeting to begin.
Drew pulls out a file and hands some papers to Dean Walters, "Do you know what this is?"
The dean hums and looks over the papers, "It looks like a report that I wrote up, a few years ago", she lightly tosses the papers on the desk, "I don't see how they are relevant".
"Check the date"
She looks back at the date and shrugs, "Okay?"
Drew pulls out another set of documents and hands them out, "This is the same document, but it was filled a week prior to the first set of documents, with an attached note...whats the attached noted labeled as?"
Clearing her throat, Dean Walters, looks at the new set of documents, "Snitch folder".
"Snitch folder...that's an interesting title"
Stacey hums and looks over the papers, and pipes in, "Dean...you filed an HR compliant on something that was already made aware to HR. How did you even get this pushed through?"
Dr. Nettles hums and looks at Stacey. She hands him the HR file on Becca and Alix, "Alix came to us and let us know, prior to being in any of Dr. Blake's classes, that she and Dr. Blake were in a relationship".
Nettles hums and looks over the file then looks at the documents from Drew, shaking his head. The dean clears her throat and speaks up, "It doesn't matter if the student went to HR prior or not. It was still an ethics violation that needed to be dealt with-"
Drew hums and asks, "An ethics violation..? Which one? The snitch, who was a student that was caught cheating and made a deal with you so they wouldn't be expelled OR the fact that you used this information to force Dr. Blake to take a sabbatical so she wouldn't be eligible for a promotion?"
Becca looks at Drew then at the Dean with a shocked and surprised expression. Dean Walters clears her throat, "One thing has nothing to do with the other"
"Oh I think it does. You see, you violated the ethics code by making a deal with a cheating student. Who was written up, multiple times for cheating, and would've been expelled".
He hands over documents that prove what he is saying is correct, including the document about Becca being up for a promotion. She looks at it then at the dean confused.
"Why?"
"Why" the dean laughs and looks at Becca, "Because they wanted to give you my job. Could you imagine?" She lets out a cackle and shakes her head, "You sitting in this chair. You didn't deserve it, so I made sure it wouldn't happen".

Drew hums and pulls out another file, the file containing all the information. He hands them to Stacey and Dr. Nettles.
"The only mistake you made, was keeping files on everything. You see" he hands her a file, "you kept everything. Every threat you made, every deal with the student for more information on my client, every time you made sure my client was 'mysteriously' taken off the list for promotion. What you did was illegal-"
"What she did was a disgrace! Sleeping with a student!" Dean Walters scoffs, "Alix used you Becca, and you let her".
"Alix never used me, she got to where she is on her own merit. She worked so hard-"
"Worked hard?" She scoffs, "It's so hard to be on your knees, isn't it?"
Becca clenches her jaw and fist, Drew notices and lightly pats Becca's knee. Dr Nettles gets up and opens the door, "I've heard enough. This will be taken to the judicial board" he waves in security, "Dean Walters, you are relieved of your duties effective immediately"
"You can't do this!" She immediately stands to her feet.
"I just did. Hand over your badge. Security will wait with you while you pack up your belongings then escort you out"
He hands Stacey the papers to hand back to Drew. He puts them back in the file, then takes the ones off the deans desk. Becca stands up and clears her throat softly, Dr Nettles looks at her. "Dr. Blake, on behalf of the university, I'd like to personally apologize to you. While we don't condone professor student relationships of any kind, it appears appropriate steps were taken to make sure things were kept as professional as possible. I'll email you later today".
Becca nods softly. The dean scoffs while she packs her things up, sitting the box down with a small thud. She walks around the desk and backhands Becca, catching her off guard. Becca looks at her shocked. Drew immediately moves to stand between the women while security pulls Dean Walters back.
"I want this on the record. Security was present when Dean Walters struck my client"
Reaching up, Becca feels her lip bleeding. Drew hands her a tissue, "Are you okay?"
She nods and dabs her lip, whispering, "old lady has one hell of a backhand".
Drew lets out a soft smile while trying not to chuckle. He guides Becca out as Stacey follows behind them. Shay stands up when she sees them come out, immediately noticing Becca's lip.
"Oh my god!"
She dabs her lip, "I'm fine Shay".
"That is not fine. What the hell happened in there?!" She looks at Stacey. Stacey hums softly, "She dethroned the ice queen. Can't say I'm mad about it".
She walks over to Dr. Nettles as he is signing some papers. Dean Walters walks out with security, rolling her eyes as she sees the trio, "This won't end well for you or your little tramp. You should've just did what I told you!"
Drew stands in front of Becca to shield her as she walks past, "Get her out of here".
Dean Walters scoffs as she walks out. Drew immediately turns to Becca, "We can tack on an assault charge if you want".
She sighs and dabs her lip, Shay looks at Becca and Drew, "She's the one that hit you?! Alix is-"
"Alix isn't going to find out"
Shay looks at Becca confused, "Becca, she's going to figure it out when she sees you".
"I have to go home. So, I'll ice it there. She doesn't need anymore stress".
"She doesn't...or you don't?"
Becca looks at Shay, she lifts her hands up in surrender, "Got it. Alix doesn't find out...at least from me".
Stacey walks over and asks Becca if they can go discuss what happened in her office, Drew nods softly. The two woman make their way down to Stacey's office.

Shay makes sure they are gone, before turning to Drew and looking at him. "I can't and you know this" he chuckles softly. Shay groans and pouts, "Drewwww".
He sighs and looks at his wife, "Did Alix ever know that Becca was going to be offered the dean position?"
"What?! No. Not that I know of, why?"
"Because that was what Walters was doing. Stopping Becca from taking her job".
Shay looks at Drew shocked, "So she cooked up all this up, just to keep her job?"
Drew shrugs softly, Shay crosses her arms and hums, "What a bitch", she clicks her tongue and looks down the hallway.
"Is she really not going to tell Alix?"
Shay looks at Drew with raised eyebrows, "Sweetheart, trust me" rubbing his arm, "Alix is going to figure it out...one way or another"
