Chapter 35

Alix "listens" and hums as El talks to her, only it sounds like a bunch of muffled nonsense. Wiping her hands on the apron, Alix grabs the oven mitts and pulls out a tray of cookies, then sliding in another tray.
"Al..." El says softly. Alix looks up at her friend and hums, "hm?"
"Did you hear me?"
"Mhm...."
El looks at Alix and hums, sneaking a cookie. "You haven't heard a word I've said this entire time"
"That's not true"
El gives her a look.
"Okay...maybe I zoned out for a couple minutes" Alix says as she finishes putting the cookies on the cooling rack.
"Ha" snorts El, "a couple minutes my ass".
Alix sighs and looks out on the patio as Becca continues to pace.
"Just talk to her"
"El-"
"Don't 'El' me. She's almost done on the phone. I can pull the last tray or cookies out. Go"
El gets up and unties the apron and slides it off Alix, laying it on the counter. Gently pushing Alix towards the patio door.
"El she's not going to want to talk to me"
"So then don't 'talk'. Use your imagination on how you can distract her or better yet make her feel better!"
Alix turns and looks at El with a quirked eyebrow.
"As if I don't know. The walls are like paper thin and neither of you are quiet".
Alix shakes her head and opens the door, stepping out onto the patio. Becca turns and sees Alix, she turns around and leans against the railing.
"Yes mom. I-no. Mom it's fine" she looks at Alix, "Mom, I love you. I'll see you and dad in a bit. Okay? Love you...bye".
Becca ends the call and lets out a sigh. Alix cross her arms and stands in front of her, "Hi.." she says softly.
"Hey" Becca says softly.
"Everything...okay?" Alix asks cautiously.
Becca lets out a soft chuckle as she looks down, "I'm just...I don't know what to do Al" she looks up meeting her eyes. Alix steps closer and pulls her into a warm hug. Becca wraps her arms around Alix's waist, holding her close.
Alix whispers in her ear, "I'm sorry".
"You have nothing to be sorry about"
Alix sighs softly, placing soft kisses on her temple Becca nuzzles into the crook of Alix's neck, sighing softly.

After a few moments, Alix kisses Becca's temple. "Do we need to do a rain check today" she asks softly.
"No" Becca replies softly. Alix pulls back and gently cups her cheeks, wiping the stray tears with her thumbs.
"Bec, if you need to go-"
"No" she shakes her head and looks down.
Alix leans up and kisses her forehead softly.
"Baby...it's okay-"
"Come with me" Becca says as she meets Alix's eyes.
"Where?"
"With me. My mom wants to talk...and you can meet my dad-"
"Bec, I'd love to meet your dad. But I don't want to meet him under the guise of 'she's the doctor running the study'. This is a family thing and I-"
"So come with me, not as the doctor, but as my girlfriend" she sighs then whispers, "please Alix. I promise you, I had this whole cute idea planned. I was going to ask you when you got back, but you were upset. El helped me plan it and-"
Alix lets out a soft chuckle, "El? As in Eloise my best friend? Helped you?"
"I know" Becca groans softly, "I'm not entirely sure she didn't booby trap it".

Alix hums and rubs Becca's cheek. She sighs and leans in, kissing Alix softly, "please?"
"I'm done hiding. And I'm done hiding you, Alix. I want to take you on dates, I want to come home to you. I want to stop by the office and have lunch with you. I love you, Alix, more than I ever thought was possible. You make me want to be a better person in every way. Alix Taylor, will you be my girlfriend?"
Alix smiles softly and hums, "Yeah".
"Yes?!"
"Mhm" Alix smiles against Becca's lips.
Becca seals it with a kiss, laying their foreheads together. Alix kisses her back softly.
