Nick POV
"C'mon please Nick." Maya pleads as we walked in the woods, we were still close by camp. Maya and I recently talked to Dustin to welcome him back home and he told us that he has a girlfriend named Suzie. We only talked to him for a little since he was going to introduce the others to his girlfriend by using an invention, he made in Science camp. After we finished talking to him Maya and I decided to walk around the woods, and she has been attempting to talk me into spending my last week of summer vacation in Hawkins before school begins.
"Maya, you know that I love visiting so I can hang out with you and the party. But I would only be there for a week because school starts the next week, and honestly I want to spend my last week at my house relaxing in my bed." I tell her making Maya scoff.
Maya grabs my arm and stops me. I turn around to tell her no again but stop when I see the serious look on her face.
"Okay the real reason why I'm asking you not to go home after camp is over and go with me to Hawkins is because of Will." Maya confesses and I furrow my eyebrows in confusion on how me going to Hawkins involves Will.
"In the letter Will written to me he's told me that he misses when we all used to get together to play D&D and now everything changed... and he's right ever since that night Will was taken by the Demogorgon our lives changed. We thought everything would go back to normal when Will came back, and everything would return to how it used to be before that night. But instead, we had to deal with the Mind Flayer possessing Will..." Maya pauses and continues, "I just thought you coming with me it would mean we can all play D&D together. It would be like the old days before we found out about the Upside Down." Maya sadly tells me looking down her voice cracking.
She looks up at me and my heart breaks at the sight of her crying. It made me feel guilty seeing Maya cry it is rare because she hates crying in front of people.
"Maya-"
"Just forget it!" Maya exclaimed interrupting me and bumping into my shoulder as she walks back to camp.
"Maya I'm sorry." I yelled apologizing only for Maya to flip me off and continue walking away towards camp.
"Fuck, Max is going to kill me."
Ziggy POV
"This is such bullshit." I muttered, cursing Kurt for ordering me to look for the rabbits I let loose but knew there was no point in looking since they were long gone so I decided to just head back to camp.
As I walked back to camp, I hear voices that were close by. Me being curious I followed were the voices were coming and as I got closer, I realized the voices were Maya and Nick. I hid behind the tree so I wouldn't get caught.
I peek and see the two arguing with each other I couldn't make out what the argument was about the only word I managed to hear was 'Upside Down'
"What the hell is Upside Down? Is that a code word?"
I hide behind the tree again before the two could spot me and watch as Maya angrily storms. Luckily, she didn't notice me. She flips Nick off as he yells her name.
I stay hidden hoping that Nick doesn't follow Maya. Thankfully he doesn't and continues walking away giving me the chance to go after Maya and check on her.
Maya POV
"Stupid Nick. He's such an asshole." I muttered angrily kicking the pebble as I walked back to camp.
I was lost in thought that I didn't hear footsteps coming behind me till I feel a hand on my shoulder making me scream in fright.
I look and see it's Ziggy who looks at me amused trying to hold back a laugh.
"What the hell Ziggy! You almost gave me a heart attack!" I exclaimed clenching my shirt as Ziggy chuckles.
"Sorry Maya didn't mean to scare you." Ziggy apologizes putting her arm around my shoulder, "Yeah I'm sure didn't mean too." I sarcastically replied, making Ziggy laugh.
"What are you doing here anyways?" I curiously asked why she isn't camp Ziggy scoffs, "Kurt found out I let the rabbits out of their cages and told me to bring back the rabbits I let loose but there's no point the rabbits are long gone." Ziggy tells me annoyed at Kurt.
"This would've been you're third strike if I didn't take the blame of burning the camp flag." I tell her remembering Kurt reaction at the sight of the burn flag. Ziggy and I look at each other and burst out laughing, she must've remembered Kurt reaction as well.
"And for the millionth time thank you for taking the blame." Ziggy smiles and side hugs me, "What are friends for."
"Yeah friends..."
I look at Ziggy slightly frowning.
"Are you okay, Zig?" I asked worriedly Ziggy smiles assuring me she's fine.
"I'm fine but I should be asking you if you're fine." Ziggy says and I look at her confused.
"Why wouldn't I be fine? I'm here with you." I say half lying to her putting my arm around her shoulder. Yes, I'm happy to have Ziggy with me but at the same time I'm mad at Nick.
"I know your mad and it's because of Nick." Ziggy reveals making me stop walking at what Ziggy said to me. She unwraps her arm around my shoulder and steps back the two of us now staring at one another, "And don't bother lying I saw and heard the two of you arguing when
"H-How did-"
"When I was looking for the rabbits I heard voices and followed them and as I got closer I realized it was you and Nick arguing with each other." Ziggy explains.
"Ziggy knows about the Upside Down then. Oh man this is bad." I thought to myself internally panicking.
Before I could think up of a lie Ziggy continues talking.
"I couldn't hear your conversation, but I know what he said to you made you upset." Ziggy says making me frown recalling my argument with Nick and how insensitive he was. I then felt relived because that meant Ziggy didn't hear me talking about the Upside Down.
"It was just an argument I don't want to talk about it." I tell her Ziggy opens her mouth, but I turn and walk away leaving Ziggy alone.
A/N
Sorry for the late chapter I been having writers block, but I think it's all gone now. Chapters will still be slow since my sister's wedding is next month. But after that I'll have time to write chapters.
The rest of the chapters will now be connected to Season 3. For example, this chapter takes place in Suzie do you copy and so will the next chapter.
The Missing Lifeguard will be one of my favorite chapters to write because of what I have in store for Maya and Max.
