Third POV
A week has passed since Maya met Ziggy and since then no progress has been made of Maya becoming friends with Ziggy. Maya thought that with the two being roommates it would mean the two getting to know each other it was the opposite. Instead, Ziggy ignored Maya when she tried to make conversation and she even stayed away from Maya during camp activities, but it wasn't hard since most of the activities involved the counselors picking who will be our partners so Maya never got the chance to ask Ziggy to be her partner.
Maya kept her promise to Max and wrote letters and called Max. The two settled what time Maya and Max would call each other, Maya made sure to call the other party members, but she mainly wrote letters to them instead of calling since she knew they'd be busy and couldn't make time to call them all and they understood since Maya and Max are dating of course Maya want to call her girlfriend more even though the two have said countless time they are not dating. From the letters she received, and her phones calls she knew the party has been having fun, but they wished she was there with them the only thing that isn't fun for them is Mike always being late to events because he's busy making out with El. Maya told Nick and he said he'll handle it hopefully Mike listens to Nick because the party is growing frustrated with Mike's behavior.
After the Mess Hall were the counselors told the campers the activities they'll be doing during the summer and introducing themselves Maya was going to call Max and tell her about Ziggy looking exactly like her, but Nick stopped her and convinced her that it be better to tell Max in person rather than on the phone. So, Maya listened all that Max knows about Ziggy, is that she is Maya's roommate and hates her which resulted in Max hating Ziggy. She found Ziggy's reasons for her disliking Maya to be stupid the only reason she knew was because she wrote to Nick asking how everything is going for his first year as a counselor, that Ziggy is a horrible person to have a crush on, and asked if he knew the reason why Ziggy hated Maya.
Today activity was canoe racing and this time surprisingly Maya and Ziggy were partnered together much to Ziggy dismay.
"Hello campers and welcome to are annual canoe race. The first team to make it back will be this year's winner. Campers get into your canoes, and we will get this race started." Kurt yells.
Maya gets inside the canoe and sticks her hand out to help Ziggy in but is instead ignored and Ziggy gets in the canoe. Maya sighs at Ziggy hostile behavior towards her. She looks at the counselors we're she sees Nick talking to Tommy.
She turns her attention to Ziggy who looks like she wants to be anywhere else but here.
"I'm glad that Joan partnered us together. I actually been wanting us to be partners, but I could never ask you because the counselors chose our partners." Maya nervously admits looking down that she missed the look of shock on Ziggy face that Maya wanted to be partners with her and is glad Joan partnered the two together. Just as Maya lifted her head up Ziggy quickly wipes the look of shock off her face and looks at the water.
Maya frowns at the sight of Ziggy it's obvious that the look on Ziggy face she wanted this race to be over with and get away from her.
"Ziggy has this huge wall around her that stops her from letting people in." Maya thought sad that Ziggy build this wall around herself that she can't see that Maya wants to be her friend. It reminded Maya of how Max was in the beginning when she first moved to Hawkins. Max was skeptical to let Maya in but slowly Maya managed to break down those walls and show Max that she does care about her and now the two are in together even though they hadn't made it official. Maya just hopes she and Ziggy can become friends and that she's able to show Ziggy it's okay to let people in.
"Racers are you all ready. Let's get this race started." Kurt yells the campers hear the air horn and the race was off and going. Surprisingly, Maya and Ziggy were working well as a team and were in the lead followed by Sheila and her roommate. Ziggy and Maya reached the turn point first and were heading back to the finish line. Sheila was yelling at her team mate to pick up the pace. Soon enough Sheila was right next to Maya and Ziggy canoe. Sheila took her canoe paddle and pushed it into Ziggy. Ziggy lost balance and tipped the canoe over. Maya tried to prevent the canoe from tipping, but she couldn't stop it.
Ziggy started panicking when she hit the water. Ziggy couldn't think straight and started thrashing around. Ziggy looked for anything to grab on. Without warning Ziggy got hit in the head with an oar. Ziggy started to sink to the bottom of the lake. Maya drove under the water and grabbed a hold of Ziggy. Maya swam with all her might to get Ziggy back to the surface of the lake. Maya put Ziggy on her back so swam them to the shore. Finally, Maya got Ziggy and her to the shore.
"ZIGGY!" Cindy yelled running towards them and kneeling down beside Ziggy pulling her into a hug relieved that Ziggy is safe. She pulled away and sighed in relief that Ziggy looked fine and didn't show any injuries.
Maya stood up to give the sisters space and spots Sheila and her friends laughing.
"Does your head hurt? How do you feel? Do you need to go see Nurse Lane?" Cindy rapidly asked her, but Ziggy was focused on Maya walking up to Sheila with Nick walking beside her. Ziggy couldn't hear what Nick was telling Sheila and her friends, but she could see Maya angry expression. The next thing that happens takes her by surprise.
Maya jumped on top of Sheila and started hitting her. Sheila rolled them over and started to hit Maya back. Maya threw an elbow and knocked Sheila off her. Nick ran over to break up the fight between Sheila and Maya. Kurt, Arnie, and Gary ran over to help Nick break up the fight but were having a hard time holding Maya and Sheila back. Kurt got elbowed in the stomach by Maya making him let go of Maya leaving Nick to deal with Maya. Finally, Nick managed to successfully pull Maya away from Sheila.
"Let's go Maya." Nick angrily said dragging Maya by the arm to Nurse Lane office to fix Maya up. As they walked by Maya and Ziggy made eye contact with each other. The moment Maya made eye contact with Ziggy the anger in Maya's eyes was replaced with concerned for Ziggy.
Ziggy could now see that Maya lip was cut and her nose was bleeding.
"C'mon Maya your nose is bleeding." Nick said making Maya break eye contact from Ziggy, "I know Nick."
Ziggy couldn't believe that Maya Goode was defending her and got into a fight defending her. Why would Maya defend her for?
Maya POV
"You know your idiot, right?" Nick said once Nurse Lane told us she'll be right back and left her cabin to go treat Sheila since Kurt didn't want the two of us in the same cabin. In case it leads to another fight happening between us. I held the towel to my nose even though my nose stopped bleeding Nick still wanted me to hold the towel to my nose until Nurse Lane comes back, "I know you told me that during the walk to Nurse Lane cabin." I replied growing annoyed with Nick behavior.
"You shouldn't have hit Sheila. You should've let the counselors handle it but instead you thought it was a good idea to attack Sheila, and now Kurt gave you a strike and took away your phone privileges for two weeks as well as sending letters." Nick said, reminding me of the consequence Kurt gave me which I found completely unfair. I pulled the towel away from my nose and glared at Nick, "Bullshit! We both know that Kurt wouldn't punish Sheila at all he'll definitely gave her a high five in private for hitting Ziggy since Kurt hates Ziggy. Sheila and her goons have been picking on Ziggy since the first day of camp she deserved the beating I gave her." I exclaimed, sick of Sheila bullying Ziggy.
Nick sighs, "Get some rest will finish this conversation when you wake up."
Nick pats me on the back before leaving the cabin, leaving me alone.
I lay down on the bed and close my eyes slowly drifting to sleep the last thing I hear was the door opening and feel someone hand on top of mine.
A/N I never been to camp so I don't know if you're allowed to do that with phone calls if not let's just pretend you can😅 I will be possibly adding some of season 3 in the upcoming chapters were you read Maya in camp and see the party facing the Mind Flayer
