Third POV

It's been one month since El has closed the gate, freeing Will from the Mind Flayer. Since then, Maya and Max have gotten close that the two would spend time together after school by going to the arcade, Max teaching Maya how to skateboard, read comics together, and have sleepovers at Maya's house. Maya never went to Max's house because Max was afraid of Billy hurting Maya again.

Tonight, is the Snowball and Maya is going to ask Max to dance to with her.

Maya stood in front of her mirror wearing a nice shirt and pants. She wasn't a fan of wearing dresses, she's glad that her parents respected her decision on not wearing a dress to the dance.

"Max, may I have the honor of dancing with you tonight?" Maya practiced but shook her head, "Definitely not that one."

"So, Max do you want to dance with me?" Maya practices again.

"Of course, I'll dance with you, Maya. You made this the best night of my life."

Maya huffed, turning around to sees her older brother Luke leaning on the door watching in amusement at Maya practicing to ask Max to dance with her.

"Haven't you heard of knocking?" Maya asked annoyed.

Luke rolled his eyes, "Yes but the door was open, so I didn't see the point in knocking." He said.

"Also, when you ask Max to dance with you make sure to sound confident not nervous." Luke tells her.

"Whatever can you leave now." Maya said pointing at Luke to leave. She wasn't in the mood to deal with Luke's teasing.

"I'm just giving out helpful advice." He said Maya scoffs, "Yeah like I'm going to take advice from someone whose never been in a relationship I would rather take advice from Steve and that's only because he's been in a relationship and dated Nancy."

Luke frowned, "I was just trying to be helpful." He muttered but Maya didn't hear him.

"Just hurry up mom is waiting to take pictures of you." Luke tells her, "Also you look beautiful Maya. Max is definitely not going to take her eyes off you."

Luke leaves Maya's room, closing the door and walks downstairs unaware of the confidence he just gave Maya.

"Is Maya ready to go?" Mom asks, holding a camera in her hand.

"Yea-." Luke stops mid-sentence spotting a person he hasn't seen since last year.

"Nick?" Luke says in disbelief his mouth open in shock at the sight of Nick standing across from him.

"Hello cousin."

"What are you doing here?" Luke asks surprised to see him here the last time the two saw each other was last year and it ended with the two fighting.

Luke and Nick don't have the best relationship the two used to be close when they were younger, but things changed it's Luke fault while Maya and Nick are still close and see each other as siblings. Nick is even close with the rest of the party that he's considered a party member even though he lives far away.

"Well Maya told me about the Snowball and since Christmas Break already started in Sunnyvale, I asked my parents if I can spend the break here in Hawkins and they said yes." Nick explained, "Nick then called me and asked if he can stay here for the holidays and your mom, and I said yes. We been keeping it a secret from you and Maya." Luke's dad tells him patting Nick shoulder.

Before Luke could say anything the four hear footsteps coming down the stairs.

"I'm ready to go no- "Maya stops mid-sentence when she sees Nick.
