The party really started when the sun went down, JJ made it a point to be in charge of the aux and played his music loud making the night a good ole fashioned Pogue party. Like I always did at such parties, I allowed myself to drink as much alcohol as I wanted. Who was going to tell me different? Certainly no one I was partying with.

I was sipping from my can when Knock, Knock by Mac Miller played through the speaker, and I had to dance. I mean, who couldn't? It was Mac Miller. "JJ!" I called over to him as watched him finish his beer. Without a word, he joined me next to the fire and started dancing with me. Kiara extended a hand out for John B to join her. Memories of the million times we'd done this before flooded into my brain as we laughed together. Dancing and signing along to our favorite musician made everything else in the world seem small.

As the song faded out, my buzz went with it. Something about dancing around a fire really just kicks the alcohol out of you. "I will be right back." My pointer finger danced over them as my hand extended out, "Do not miss me too much." JJ was right by my side as I made my way into the house. He had been by my side the whole night. Where I went, he followed. The alcohol had made things a lot less tense and I hadn't been overthinking like I normally did, but the alcohol wasn't affecting me anymore and now my brain was racing.

I walked into my room and over to the candle that sat on my desk. "Bro, is this the shit I gave you?" JJ asked as he opened my stash candle. By stash candle I mean it was just a Bath & Body Works candle with a scent I couldn't stand so it was used for other things.

I quickly reached over and put the lid back on it. "Can you not open that in here? My mom would freak." The lid had been suppressing a month and a half's worth of stank and it did not need to be released at this present moment. I held onto the candle as I rummaged through my desk drawer for the cigarello, "So, Sarah? She's cool now?" Any conversation besides the one I was having in my head sounded good to me.

He shrugged, "We stranded her and Kie in the marsh and made them work out their problems."

"How mature." I responded as I found the wrap.

"Hey, you left and suddenly we had to come up with our own plans. So, technically, it's your fault." I grabbed my heart in fake distress.

"I do not like being blamed for the Kook invasion that happened on your watch." I joked back. As long as everyone was happy and safe, they can love and hangout with whoever they want. They had their time to make peace with her, so I was still taking my time too. But with the way John B looks at Sarah, its really the only thing a best friend could ask for.

"Well, you left and became a Kook. So..." here we go again.

"I did not. My mom bought this house and you know I had no choice in moving. As you can tell, she's barely home so I can do what I want."

"With your friends?"

A look of shock washed over my face, "So you do keep tabs on me!" I sat on my bed hoping he'd sit too. "Are you mad I made friends?" He shook his head and removed his hat. I was only joking but I did want an actual answer from him. Something had to be bothering him, it was obvious. "Then what?"

"I don't know." He hesitated, "Or at least I don't know how to say it."

I nodded, "Is it still about midsummers?" He didn't answer as he stood up from his spot next to me. I went back to look for a lighter. As I rummaged, I felt him looking at me, catching him as I glanced over my shoulder. When I finally found one I walked to my door but he reached for my wrist and gently turned me back to him. We were only inches apart from each other and suddenly I couldn't breath properly. Was he going to kiss me?
