The only thing I hate about working in a café is that sometimes it is just full of rude customers, you know those ones that act like they own the place?
Yeah. I really hate those kinds of people. I'm really not the type to go and hate on my customers, but right now I just wanted to cry because of one.
''I said two sugars!'' The customer who I recall was named Veronica, growls at me.
''I did add two sugars.. '' I mutter to myself. I can't bring myself to speak any louder, knowing that I will start sobbing if I do.
''It doesn't seem like it!'' She slams her hand on the counter, and I flinch at the action. Why does she have to be so aggressive?
My co-worker - Adam - slips out of the staff room at the sound, and takes a couple steps towards us. The confused expression on his face meets my tear-filled one.
''Is something wrong?'' He questions me, as he reaches the back of the counter. Veronica glares at me before moving her gaze towards Adam.
''Hi there, Adam is it? Yes hi. Thanks for finally coming. Can you do something about this incompetent worker of yours? She completely ruined my coffee, I told her specifically that I wanted two sugars, but it's way too sweet to only have two sugars.'' Her face is so red, like she's about to explode. Who knew somebody could get that mad over sugar? I take a step back from the bursting tomato of a customer, and slightly brush my shoulder over Adam's.
Adam has always been a really sweet and nice man, not once has he yelled at me. We've been in situations like this tons of times but he has always stood up for me, knowing that I get emotional whenever someone raises their voice at me.
Adam tilts his gaze towards me then back at Veronica. ''I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding, our sugars are typically quite sweet.'' He explains, bringing his hand to mine silently, trying to comfort me. I wrap my hand around his.
At this point I've completely blocked Veronica's voice out, knowing that Adam can handle this while I just stand there and try my best to not let the tears slip out. It's hard, really hard. It feels like my eyes are suffocating and as time progresses, it gets harder and harder to breathe.
Adam lets go of my hand to properly talk the situation out with that girl, but he doesn't leave my side. Adam is like the brother I wished Liam could be, and he's also my best friend. We have been this close ever since we met.

The bell chimes over the dainty door of the café. I exchange the cash and pick out the change for the bill. "Here's your change, have a great day!" I give a sweet smile, and hand the coins to the last customer.
"Hello there, I was just wondering if Vintage Café is hiring right now?"
I tilt my head to see who just entered the café, praying they aren't here for trouble. I see a man a couple feet shorter than the door frame with a perky smile on his face. He has fluffy curly brown hair, deep brown eyes, faint freckles speckled on his cheeks. A small scar on his eyebrow pops out to me, it kind of looks like an eyebrow slit.
I softly smile back at him, so far he looks like a nice person. "Yes, we are. Are you looking for work?" He comes around to the counter and nods his head.
I call Lorelai to the front and they start to go through all the paperwork and application process. Ever since I started working here, I thought that I didn't need anyone else beside me. I thought I could just be independent and prove my worth.
