Author's POV

"Good morning, ma'am"

The students of grade 12 B chorused together in a rhythm seeing their teacher enter the class.

"Good morning, everyone. Please, sit down." The Maths teacher who had just entered, said.

Before the teacher could open the book, she had brought with herself, a student spoke, "Ma'am, will you not announce our marks?"

The students had given their Pre-Board exams a few weeks ago. Now, it was the time for result announcement.

Other students cheered with happiness and pleaded with her to tell them the marks. No, they were not excited to hear the marks they had secured. They were eager to know who got the highest: Humera or Shahzain.

Well, this was not a new thing in the class. The students would enjoy the whole day of Shahzain and Humera taunting each other.

"I have already beaten you in Physics by two marks. This time in Maths also you will lose." Shahzain, who was sitting behind his rival in his usual seat, said only for him and her to hear.

Humera clenched her jaw at his words but did not say anything. There was a nagging fear inside her. She knew she had done the exam well but losing to Shahzain was still a possibility.

The teacher had announced the numbers of everyone except those two. She had decided to make the final announcement dramatic. Well, you can't blame her, she has always enjoyed their banters like others. In fact, every single teacher of the school enjoyed their rivalry. They were the source of entertainment for everyone in the school. The little banters here and there had kept the school in daily dose of the fun.

"Shahzain Mir has got." She paused before announcing his marks. She looked at her students who were holding their breath. Oh, the fun to make them wait in anticipation.

"Ma'am, please tell." A student spoke impatiently as the teacher was taking too much time.

The teacher, Saira, chuckled.

"Shahzain has got 98."

The students hooted loudly and congratulated Shahzain.

"Stop, congratulating Shahzain, Humera has gotten 100." Humera's bestfriend, Aamira, said loudly.

"That's not possible." Some boys exclaimed loudly.

"Of course, it's possible. It's Humera. The Star student, Humera Ali Khan, we are talking about." One of the girls said in favor of Humera.

Saira, the teacher cleared her throat grabbing everyone's attention. As much as she enjoyed the clash brought by the two star students of the school, the noise was getting too much and there was a possibility of disturbance in other classes. The boys of the class looked at her hoping she would deny Aamira's claim.

Saira looked at Humera and then Shazain, before glancing at Aamira. "Actually," Like before she took a long pause. She hid her smile looking at her students' impatient faces.

"Aamira is right. Humera got 100/100." Saira finally disclosed the most awaiting information.

The girls cheered and booed the boys.

Humera turned towards Shahzain with smirk. "Someone was saying something about beating in Maths. What happened, Shahzain? How did you get beaten?"

Shahzain glared at her and pulled her hair in annoyance. Humera looked at him murderously and slapped his arms. Fortunately for them, no one had seen their small fight.

Humera, however, found it beneficial to ignore him and focused on the book on her desk. Since they had their board exam in two months, the teacher had told them to do self-study. Their syllabus was already completed hence there was nothing new to teach them.
