Days in hospital were passing quickly and already the five months of internship had ended. There was a lot of burden on the shoulders of young interns. It was like all the hospital work was given to them and in a way, it was true too. The Interns were the ones that did the most work in hospitals. And on top of that some of the doctors and nurses did not even treat them fairly.

"You look like a zombie." Shahzain said taking a seat beside an exhausted Humera. The girl in return glared at him.

"You can take a quick nap, you know." He suggested to her. It was an evening shift for both of them; which meant they were to work till midnight. They were really tired with all the running they had done. It was their final week in the general ward before they would be placed at different departments.

"I can't, Shah." Humera shook her head negatively. "I need to make a round at around 11. That is after thirty minutes. I won't be able to function properly if I take a nap."

"I can do that for you. You sleep." Shahzain looked at her with worried eyes. She was looking too tired, and it looked like she might have gotten sick herself. He was worried for her. The work of interns was hard, but the way Humera was pushing herself was probably going to take a toll on her health.

"And what will you say to the senior doctor? Some of these nurses are huge complainers and they would not hesitate to snitch on us. You and I both will get punishment, Shah. So, let it be. I will sleep after coming from the rounds." Humera told him.

"Where are others by the way?" Shahzain looked around not seeing other interns.

"Ayaan and Zoya have gone for the rounds in west side. They will be here shortly. I don't know about others though." She told him.

Shahzain nodded at her. "When are you planning to give the license exam?"

"I want to finish the intern-" Her words got halted due to the yawn that decided to make it appearance.

Shahzain sighed. "Era, sleep."

Humera opened her mouth to argue but he gave her a warning stare to not argue. "I will wake you up for your rounds. Now, close your eyes."

Humera pouted but did as he had told. Within a few seconds, she fell asleep due to the tiredness. A small smile appeared on Shahzain's face looking at her sleeping form. These past hours had taken a toll on her. There were dark circles underneath her eyes along with eye bags.

"I am so tired." Zoya said entering the help desk area. Shahzain shushed her and signaled to the sleeping girl beside him.

"Why is she sleeping?" Aaliya who had arrived there a few minutes later glanced at Humera's form and asked in an angry tone.

"Don't you know why people sleep?" Ayaan glared at the girl.

"She is not allowed to sleep here." Aaliya exclaimed loudly but not enough to wake up Humera.

"Who are you?" Shahzain glared at Aaliya. "Who are you to decide she can or cannot sleep?"

Aaliya looked at Shahzain in shock and disbelief. From the beginning he had never talked to her in such a rude tone. Aaliya stayed quiet but not before throwing a quick glare in the direction of Humera.

Zoya and Ayaan glared at Aaliya. That girl was always trying to pick fights with Humera. Why was she so indifferent to their friend was a question that had lingered in their mind from the very beginning of the internship.

As the clock chimed turning 11, Shahzain stood up from his place. He glanced at Humera before turning to face the others. "She better not wake up until I return from the rounds. If she does, the consequences will be severe." He threw a last warning look at Aaliya before leaving the place.

He visited the rooms and took care of the patients. He returned after the duty hour got finished and was happy to see Humera still sleeping. While packing the bags, he got a call from the driver.

"Era, wake up." Shahzain shook her softly. "Come on. It's time to go home."

She opened her eyes hastily and looked at Shahzain. "It's 11?"

Shahzain chuckled and shook his head negatively. "It's 12. Your driver called. We need to leave now."

Hearing his response, Humera glared at him. "You did my duty, didn't you? You should have woken me up, Shah. Why did you take the trouble?"

Shahzain gave her a cheeky smile. "I will remember the next time."

Humera gave him a pointed look. "Next time? There won't be a next time. I will never sleep on duty from now onwards."

"We will see." Shahzain gave her a teasing smirk and walked ahead. Humera grumbled under her breathe about how insufferable he was and followed him out to the parking lot.

They settled inside the car and the vehicle drove them to the Khan Villa. Since they both had day off, the next day, the women of Khan Villa had ordered Shahzain to stay the night in their place.

After entering the house, they walked to the kitchen to get themselves a glass of water and were shocked to see the scene in front them. The eldest son of the family was wearing an apron and was cooking in the middle of the night. They shared a glance before Humera called out. "Rayyan Bhai?"

Rayyan turned to them and gave a small tired smile. "You two are back. Take a seat, I will serve you."

"It was not needed, Bhai." Shahzain looked at the older man. "You did not have to trouble yourself."

Rayyan shook his head. "I did not stay up for the two of you. Don't think highly of yourselves. Ayesha was craving for Biryani. So, I thought I will add a few more cups and give you two."

"How is she by the way? I have not gotten chance to meet her for few days now." Humera asked him.

"She is good except for the weird midnight cravings."

"I don't have weird craving." Ayesha complained entering the area. She had gone to the washroom.

"My apologies. Of course, you don't." Rayyan put his hands up in surrender. Ayesha took out the bottle of ketchup and walked outside with Rayyan following behind her with a plate of Biryani.

"Is she going to put ketchup in Biryani?" Shahzain looked at the doorway with wide eyes.

Humera chuckled. "Weird pregnancy cravings, Shah. You will see when your wife gets pregnant."

"I am waiting for the day to fulfill your pregnancy cravings." Shahzain muttered in a small voice looking at Humera who was busy serving the biryani. However, she did not hear him.

They had the food in silence and departed for the night.
