Chapter 15

Present

"Shahzain." Shahzain turned his head to the direction of the voice and saw Zoya waving her hand at him. He had just entered the cafeteria with Aaliya and Farhan.

"Let's go there." Shahzain walked towards the table where Zoya, Humera and Aamira were sitting, and the two others followed him.

"What are you doing here?" Shahzain asked Aamira while taking his seat beside Humera.

"What type of question is that? I work here." Aamira looked at him weirdly.

"Exactly. Why are you here and not working?" Shahzain asked.

"Are you dumb or are you dumb? I am here to eat. I am a human not a machine to work all time." Aamira glared at him.

Before Shahzain could continue the bickering, Humera slightly held his arm. Aaliya's jaw clenched seeing the interaction. Her hands itched to rip Humera's hand from Shahzain's forearm.

"The two of look perfect together." Zoya said with a grin making them roll their eyes.

"Exactly, Zoya. They are the 'Rab ne Bana di Jodi'." Aamira added giving a smirk to Aaliya.

"Shut up and eat." Humera glared at them.

"By the way, Shahzan, you are not getting any younger. Have you thought of getting married?" Zoya asked with a teasing smile.

"Why? Are you interested in me?" Shahzain asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Nah." Zoya shook her head negatively. "You are not my type. I was asking for a friend."

Shahzain nodded his head and let out sigh. "Unfortunately for your friend, I already have someone in my life."

"You did not tell us about your woman, Shahzain. Is she a doctor like us?" Farhan, who had been silent till now asked his friend.

"You will know when the right time comes. And, yes, she is a doctor like us." Shahzain said.

A blush appeared in Aaliya's face hearing his words. In her mind, she was sure it was her since he rejected Humera. She felt like she won the world. She looked at Humera with a smirk as if saying she lost.

"Is she ugly?" Aamira asked with a smirk to which Humera glared at her best friend. "Is that why you are hiding her?"

Shahzain scoffed at her. "She is the most beautiful woman in the world."

"Wow. Who would have thought Shahzain would be so romantic at heart?" Farhan said.

Everyone laughed looking at Shahzain while the man felt blood rushing through his neck.

They ordered the snacks and have it while talking about random things.

...

"So, you have someone in your life, huh?" Humera asked him later that night sitting on the bed.

"Not just in life. I have a woman in my heart as well as the bed." Shahzain pulled her to him making her hit his arm.

"The entire hospital would know that you are committed now." Humera let out a concern.

"So what? It's good that they would not include me in petty rumors. And my wife was not feeling good hearing yesterday's rumors so I decided to clear the air." Shahzain said pulling her closer to him.

"You are the best, you know." She said looking at him with a tender smile.

"I have heard that many times." He said cockily making Humera shake her head at him and mutter, "Arrogant."

"Mrs. Arrogant." Shahzain softly pecked her head.

They stayed in each other's arm soaking in the peace of the silence.

"I don't like Aaliya." Humera muttered grumpily after a while breaking the comfortable silence that had prevailed between the two of them.

"What is up with the two of you? She is good to me." Shahzain said.

"That's a façade." Humera detangled from his arm and looked at him. "The only reason she is good to you is because you are handsome and the owner's son. Otherwise, she is vile towards everyone."

Shahzain nodded and pulled her back to his arms. "Why are we talking about some outsider? Let's talk about ourselves."

"Oh yeah?" Humera cocked her head sideways to look at him.

"Yeah." Shahzain kissed her nose eliciting a giggle from her. "I missed you."

"I missed you too." Humera tightened her hands around her. "It is just the beginning, Shah, and we are hardly getting time for each other. What if we end up like your parents?"

Shahzain's jaw clenched before he composed himself and softly rubbed her head. "We would not. It's a promise to you. We will always be there for each other, okay?"

"And our children in future. I don't want them to be like you." Humera added.

Shahzain nodded with a teary smile. "And our children too. We will be a good family. I love you."

Humera smiled at his confession and kissed his cheek. Shahzain gave her a tender smile of his own. Both of them knew Humera liked him. But the main thing was she had still not realized her love for him. And Shahzain was ready to wait for her to realize her feelings for him. He had waited years to have her and now she was finally here. So, a few years to wait for her confession was not going be an impossible task for him.

"Shah?" She called him.

"Yes, Aşkım." He replied.

"I miss Ammi Abbu. Are you free tomorrow evening?" She asked him.

Shahzain nodded. "We will go after our duty is over and stay the night there, okay?"

Humera nodded with a huge smile. Despite her parents' home being next door, they had not gotten time to visit the Khans due to their hectic schedule.

A while later, they slept peacefully in each other's arms not knowing about the tragic storm moving in their direction.
