Why Fix It?

I was checking Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter when I got a knock on the door. I instantly froze. She's here.

I stood up and walked over to the door. And opened it.

"Hello Caroline."

"Hey Luke. May I?" She asked.
I just stood and stared. This is going to be a lot harder than I thought.

"Yes please come in." I said as I shook my head to get out of my daze.

I went out and checked the chicken. Caroline wasn't making herself at home which made me glad. I didn't want her walking in as if she owned the place. She broke my heart. And my heart ain't cheap to fix. As I flipped the chicken one last time I thought about different ways the night could end.

Well I sure hope it doesn't end that way.

I opened my sliding glass door and walked into the kitchen.
"So." She said.

"So what?"

"I don't know Luke. What are we doing? What was I doing? What was I thinking?" She looked up at me.

I put my hands on the island to hold myself up. "I don't know? How am I supposed to know? I can't read your mind." I said snoody.

"I miss you." She said.

"Haaaahooold on now. You think that you can just leave and then come back? You think I'll just take you back like that?" I asked.

"Luke I didn't come here to fight. I came here to talk. So let's not be upset." She said calmly.

"Caroline how the Hell am I suppose to be calm? Or not be upset?" I asked in a high voice. Before she could answer I turned around to check the chicken. It wasn't quite done yet. I turned around back into the kitchen. "Look Caroline. What you did hurt. It's gonna take alittle while to heal that. I'm not just going to let you back into my life like we were before. I can't. You walked away from me."

"But Luke." She spoke.

"No Caroline." I said. And a tear slipped from her eyes.

"Why are you being like this?" She asked.

"Me being like what? How does it feel. It hurts don't it?" I asked. She had no words left to say after that. "Can i ask you something? I want nothing but the honest truth."

"What?" She asked.

"Hold on let me get the chicken then I'll ask." I got the chicken and we got out plates and ate in the sound of music playing then we finished and cleaned up.

"Okay, now can I ask you something? I asked.

"Sure?" She said.

"Why'd you do it?"

"Do what?"

"Walk away so quick."

"Luke, I had and still do have strong feelings for you. But when Kelly died you didn't have a lot of time for me. Well it seemed even after. And I didn't expect you to forget she passed but I was trying to be there for you and help you. But you wouldn't take it. You were getting depressed and I thought I was starting to get in the way. I tried to called you a few times but you ignored me. So that's when I started ignoring you. Just because I thought I was bugging you. You had so much going on I didn't think a distant relationship would help so I thought maybe a break would do. I look back and I swear. I honestly regret that decision. But it happened. I talked to Kaitlynn about you everyday. To the point where she got annoyed. She told me I should find some one else so I tried. But no matter who or what I did I couldn't get you out of my mind. I tried to contact you but you wouldn't respond. You were always pissed at me. Even though you didn't know one thing. You didn't realize it."

"I didn't realize what?" I asked as I cut her off.
