Menka:
"Would you like some more tea, Menka?"
Smiling, she held out her empty cup to Dende, who refilled it with green tea. They sat at a small table behind his palace. Mister Popo had desig-ned this area as a small garden and they completely forgot that they were on a platform high above the clouds.
She took a sip of tea and put the cup on the table. Thoughtfully, she looked at the white flowers growing in the flowerbed beside the table.
"What's on your mind?"
It did not escape Dende's notice that Menka was not pestering him with questions as usual.
"I'm still wondering what Beerus wanted from the Super Dragon Balls."
Now it was Dende's turn to smile. "You always want to solve a mystery completely first, don't you?"
"You know me too well."
"Can you show me?"
Wordlessly, Menka handed him her hand across the table, which Den-de grasped. At the same time they closed their eyes. Together they entered the darkness that awaited them when they let their souls travel. Only as outlines did they face each other in the complete blackness. Menka formed her hands into a bowl in front of her body and let a bubble rise from it in which images slowly formed. She showed Dende the moment when she had waited with her family in the glass cube in space and Beerus had made a wish from the Super Dragon Balls.
When the memory was finished, Dende nodded and they returned to their bodies.
"So?" Menka looked at Dende expectantly.
Dende remained silent for a moment, absent-mindedly stroking Men-ka's hand with his thumb.
"I'm not quite sure," he began hesitantly. "It was the language of the gods and I only understood a few words. Earth and Sixth Universe for sure."
Menka's eyes widened in surprise. "Do you think Beerus had the Earth of the Sixth Universe destroyed?" Unease gripped her.
Decidedly, Dende shook his head. "No, I can't imagine that. Even gods have rules."
"I think Mama once told me that the Earth of the Sixth Universe was destroyed by the inhabitants themselves." She pondered. "Yes, yes, it must have been. That's why Champa wanted the tournament in the first place. Be-cause he wanted our Earth in his universe."
"Then perhaps he even wished for the Sixth Universe's Earth to be res-tored."
"Then Beerus wouldn't be so bad."
Dende smiled cautiously. "He still remains a god of destruction."
"I know." Menka sighed and slightly shifted the position of her hand. Dende followed the movement and with his thumb now massaged the soft spot between her thumb and forefinger. "I hope it will stay quiet for once now. Mama has promised that she would like to stay at home for a while."
"I wish she would." Dende cleared his throat. "Shall we walk around the platform for a bit?"
" Love to."
Without taking their hands off each other, they stood up, crossed the palace and stood on the white-tiled area in front of the palace. Menka loved to walk along the edge of the platform. Dende and she observed what was hap-pening in the world, discussed the different things they saw, enjoyed the beauty of nature and wondered about some of the people's behaviour. They never got bored.
Menka intertwined her fingers with Dende's as they slowly walked along the edge.
"Menka, I ..." Dende seemed to be struggling for words.
"Yes?"
"I've always wanted to tell you that I ... really like you a lot." He grew quieter, as if he didn't trust his own voice, and looked to the earth as he did so.
Surprised, Menka stopped and smiled when she saw how pink Dende's cheeks had become. She lifted her free hand, stroked his cheek and left her hand there.
"I like you very much too."
Dende lifted his face and smiled uncertainly. He put his hand on hers, nuzzled his cheek in her soft hand and closed his eyes.
Menka took a half step towards him. She was now facing him exactly when Dende opened his eyes again. Surprise was reflected in his dark eyes. But there was more. Curiosity?
"What are you doing?"
As if caught off guard, Dende and Menka jumped apart, with Menka's back to the edge of the platform and leaping beyond it into the void. It took her two seconds to catch herself and she landed with her head high and red next to Dende, whose face also looked more like a tomato.
"What are you doing here, Reyak?" she snapped at her brother. She was annoyed that she had been so distracted that she had not noticed him and Gine, who was holding on to her brother's hand, before.
Reyak seemed to consider insisting on an answer, but then decided against it. "I have a date with Trunks and Goten. Mum and Dad were going to babysit Gine then, but they still haven't come back yet. Can you watch them?" He exchanged quick glances between Dende and Menka. "If you two love-birds have time for that," he added with a smug grin.
If at all possible, Menka blushed even redder. "Get lost!"
She held out her hand to Gine, which the little girl immediately took. Reyak grinned broadly once more and took a header off the platform.
"That guy ..." she muttered, taking Gine in her arms. "So what are we going to do?"
"Are you angry with me?" Gine looked at Menka out of big sad eyes.
"What, no! I was just very startled when you suddenly stood next to me."
Gine smiled. "Reyak was showing me how to suppress my aura."
"I see." Menka made a mental note that she would soon scare Reyak too. What he could do, she could do already.
"Shall we see if we can find Mummy and Daddy from up here?"
"Mummy and Daddy Two are with Daddy One," Gine said with convic-tion.
"Really?" Menka concentrated. Sensing auras came easily to her, for she sensed the energies of other living beings all the time. She had had to practise for a long time until she had learned not to let everything hit her, but only to perceive auras specifically.
After a few seconds she knew that Gine was right. "Reyak wasn't really looking at all. He should have just taken her with him," Menka muttered to herself.
"There's someone with them I don't know." Dende pointed downwards.
Menka followed his finger, zoomed in and now saw her parents standing with her uncle in a gazebo in the garden of Bulma's estate. On a lounger lay a young man with purple hair.
She shook her head. "I don't know him either. But his aura ..."
"...bears a resemblance to Trunks'," Dende finished the sentence.
"I'll fly down then."
Dende looked as if he wanted to say something else. "Greetings," was all he said then, blushing once more.
Menka turned to Dende in a flash, pressed a kiss to his cheek and then jumped off the platform. She could still see his smile as she flew to her aunt and uncle's estate.
