MADISON
It was over twenty seconds later when my ass began to hurt from the unexpected force, and the rain was getting heavier when someone from the fourth floor popped through the window.
It was none other than Caleb, the only person who knew I was behind the blackout.
Oh no!
I began to crawl. My eyes were barely active as I searched through the bush for my mobile phone.
Luckily, it wasn't difficult to locate the device. So, I used the remaining strength left in my half-frozen, half-shocked body and accelerated toward the building, seeking shelter and, more importantly, a hideout, as flashlights began flickering through every window in the building.
A swarm of butterflies did a happy dance in my stomach when I confronted the overflowed crowd exiting the building, passing beside me and getting exposed to the rainfall as they all raced toward their vehicles.
In wonder, I stood still on the lawn, not caring about the rain mercilessly hitting my skin. Instead, I was lost in pride and self-satisfaction, so excited watching Caden's party burning to the ground as the poor, half-naked partygoers screamed over the icy rain while running for shelter.
Then, fingers wrapped around my arm, and suddenly my heart threw itself against the wall of my chest.
"Are you okay?"
Caleb.
Okay, a little better than I expected, but still, this isn't good.
Now he's going to report me.
With eyes closed and pounding heartbeats, I started turning around, but what I was met with was an aggressive version of my stepbrother. It was like I was a red cape, whipping around, and he was the angry bull charging towards me.
I urged myself to run as my eyes grew wider, but my body had never agreed with my brain, so it remained still in the pouring rain, waiting for the bull to crush me.
"What did you do?" He snarled while people continued departing the building.
"I-I... I." I stammered, not taking my eyes off him.
"Are you okay?" I heard someone say, but who cares? I mean, all I saw was that tall, handsome young man who would probably murder me for what I just did.
"MOVE!" He shoved Caleb away from me, and my heartbeat grew abnormally fast. Somewhere in my head, I could hear the sound of police sirens, and now I know I am actually dead.
There's nothing that would stop Caden from throwing me in jail, just to see me miserable, as he always wanted.
"I heard someone had called the cops, and whoever is responsible for this would pay the price in less than a minute." He announced spitefully.
I shrugged my shoulders, expressing nonchalance: "And why does this concern me? I mean, it's not like the lights never go out whenever the rain gets too stormy."
With shrugged lips, he inhaled deeply: "If there's enough proof, what do you think?"
"What are you yammering about?"
A vicious smile immediately took over his features.
"There are hidden cameras in the backyard that would easily fish out who is behind this, Mad."
I mustered up an unconcerned expression, even though every organ in my stomach was flipping as fear began to get the best of me.
"And? Is not like the cops will waste their precious time watching some particular tapes." I exhaled a small laugh, mentally praying I didn't appear nervous, though the rain was somewhat helpful in shrouding some traces of expressions that I couldn't control.
