'Soobin, you're gonna be late!'
Soobin almost choked on his toothpaste and looked at his watch when he heard his father's muffled shouting from the direction of the kitchen. He was indeed running late for the bus. But he couldn't help it, his morning started with him having to search through all the drawers to find that old bottle of concealer to hide the horrible red spot on his forehead that was the result of him trying to get rid of the pimple that managed to grow on his forehead by that morning.
He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw it. His skin was spotless ever since he got over the worst part of his puberty at the age of 15. Now why did the red monster have to appear on the middle of his forehead by the morning?! And why such a huge one? Judged by its size Soobin would've thought such a huge spot can only grow in a month's time. It looked like he had grown a second head overnight.
But then he remembered that he didn't put on a face mask the previous night, but who would've guessed that he will have to face such a problem next day? Could it be because of that?
Now thinking about it his skin has always been sensitive when he ate oily stuff, and suddenly the movie night from two days ago came to his mind when he and his friends ate all those chips and popcorn. He cringed at the memory. And who was the one who brought all those snacks with himself?
Huening Kai.
Obviously.
Now it was all clear. He is running late, and it's all Huening Kai's fault.
Soobin made a mental note to himself that if he misses the bus and gets punished, he is going to make sure to pull Kai to the depths of hell with himself. Because it was all his fault.
Well, maybe if Soobin would've woken up in time then he wouldn't have to rush with finding that bottle of concealer and then maybe he wouldn't be late. But it's always easier to blame others than to take responsibility for our own actions, isn't it?
'Soobin!!'
'Just a second!' yelled back Soobin after he rinsed his mouth and checked his reflection in the mirror, adjusting his shirt and winking at himself. Handsome as always.
He bursted out of the bathroom and ran to his bedroom to grab his backpack and jacket. Then he went to the front door and and began putting on his shoes.
'You forgot your lunch' stepped his Dad next to him and handed him a paper bag. Soobin smiled and thanked him, taking it from his hand. His Dad started putting on his shoes too.
'Do you need a ride to school?' he asked as he grabbed his car keys.
'Oh come on, Dad, I'm not a kid anymore! How would it look if you took me to uni?' whined Soobin while putting on his jacket. His Dad laughed.
'Okay, I just asked since you are running late' he shrugged. Soobin adjusted his jacket on himself and checked his reflection in the full body mirror next to the door. His Dad hugged his shoulder. 'My little son, you grow up so fast!!' he sighed dramatically. Soobin knew he is only doing this to annoy him. 'How handsome and tall you are!'
'Dad, I look like this every day, don't start being emotional when I'm already late' sighed Soobin.
'Oh, right, you're late.' His Dad quickly let go of him and both of them grabbed their bags.
'When are you coming home today?' asked Soobin as they stepped outside.
'Around 5. Don't forget to buy milk on the way home!' said Mr Choi as he locked the front door. Soobin nodded and threw his backpack on his shoulders, ready to leave.
He was thankful that his father wasn't a workaholic like most of his schoolmates' dads. He always had time for Soobin and didn't disappear for weeks for business trips. He owned a clothing company which obviously needed a lot of work, but he had his employees for a reason. Since Soobin's mother left his Dad when Soobin was 4, it was just the two of them and it was perfect.
His father was also on good terms with Soobin's friends. Soobin was really popular at school, well-known for his good looks (obviously), kindness and of course for being the member of the basketball team and the student council. Despite all of this and despite having tons of friends and people around him in general, Soobin didn't have many close friends. But he was fine like that. Especially since the two sophomores he was close to were pretty much a handful by themselves (referring to the first part of this chapter as Soobin is running late because of Kai and no, he is not going to admit that he overslept).
Speaking of all the people around him, I also haven't mentioned yet that most people at school had a crush on Soobin. Which is not surprising at all, honestly, Author has a crush on Soobin too, but that's besides the point. The thing was that, Soobin wasn't interested. He kept receiving love letters and him being asked out was nothing new. Basically everyone knew that Soobin always rejected these confessions, but for some reason most students were still delusional and kept believing that maybe they will be the one he will say yes to.
Soobin didn't really care about dating and didn't get the hype around relationships. Why is it always so important for everyone to find love and date someone? And more importantly, why is it that every time there's a family gathering, his aunts keep pinching his cheeks, asking him whether he is dating some nice girl already? And... why is it always about girls?
Yeah, he low-key preferred boys over girls... but no one in his family knew that and he started getting sick of hearing the questions about girls all the time. He also got asked out by boys from time to time, but unfortunately no one really sparked his interest. He actually started to wonder whether he is actually capable of loving someone other than the idols in his photocards, like, at all.
But back to where we are now.
'Shit! The bus is here in a minute! See you in the afternoon! Bye, Dad!!' yelled Soobin and jumped over the fence of their house, beginning to run down the street towards the bus stop. His Dad chuckled amusedly.
'We have a gate for a reason, Soobie...' he sighed and made his way to his car.
Soobin turned into the next street and quickened his steps when he realized that the bus was about to close its doors and leave without him.
'HEEEY!!' he started waving his hands like an idiot, almost tripping over his shoelaces that somehow got untied. The bus yanked forward, but the driver must've seen him in the mirror because it stopped as soon as it moved and the back door opened. Soobin waved as a thanks and quickly got on the bus.
He spotted a hand somewhere in the middle of the bus waving towards him and he walked forward between the seats, greeting the students he knew from school. He flopped down on the empty seat next to the tall boy who was waving to him. He was a sophomore at the same college where Soobin was a junior, that's how they became friends.
'Woah, hyung, I thought you won't even come today! Why were you so late?' asked the black haired boy. Soobin gasped for air and leaned his forehead against the back of the seat in front of him.
'It's... all... your... fault... Huening.'
