The day of the long dreaded Valentine's Day masquerade school dance came sooner than Soobin wanted and there he was now, sitting on a chair in Taehyun's bedroom with closed eyes, letting his friend apply makeup on his face. He occasionally grimaced when the different brushes tickled his skin as the younger was working on his face professionally.
'I swear to god, if you make a clown out of me, I'll kill you' he said. Kai, who was busy checking his outfit in the mirror, snorted in the background.
'If you keep scrunching your nose, I might actually do' warned him Taehyun, making Soobin relax his face muscles. 'By the way, if I wanted to embarrass you in front of the whole school, I'd pick a better day for that' he heard the younger's voice. 'I want to make the most out of this dance. Everything has to be perfect!'
'Agreed. Make hyung irresistable so maybe he would get some tonight' added Kai coming closer to watch the process. Soobin gasped.
'Huening, you are a child, stop talking nonsense! I'd kick you if I knew where you are now' he mumbled, kicking his feet around aimlessly, making the two youngers giggle as they tried to avoid being kicked in the shin.
'Now why? Even if the true love shit doesn't come true, at least you could have fun for once.'
'Kai is right' added Taehyun. 'What's wrong with mingling a bit? At least you can tell that you were there and even socialized. If it wasn't for us, you would be spending another Friday night at home playing Animal Crossing and eating tteokbokki.'
'What's wrong with Animal Crossing?' asked back Soobin.
'Nothing. We're just saying it's time for you to use your charms and popularity and socialize outside of classes.'
'I socialize outside of classes!'
'The student council doesn't count.'
'... okay, maybe I'm a bit antisocial.'
'But that is about to change! It's done!' announced Taehyun, putting on the lid of whatever makeup product he was using. Soobin opened his eyes with a sigh and looked at Tae and Kai expectantly.
'He is growing up so fast' sniffled Kai wiping away his imaginary tears.
'You look like a real prince, hyung!' exclaimed Tae. Soobin stood up from his seat and went to check himself out in the full body mirror in Taehyun's room.
His eyes widened seeing his reflection. He truly looked and felt like a prince, only a crown was missing. The suit his father got him looked and felt like it was made just for him. He looked elegant and fancy in it, the black material of the jacket was immaculate and it hugged his body perfectly, showing off his athletic figure. His blonde hair was styled nicely by his friends and the slight makeup that Taehyun added was the perfect final touch to his look.
'Wow' he breathed out seeing himself.
'Everyone will turn after you. You can thank me later' waved it off Tae. Kai was quick to snap a picture of Soobin while Taehyun checked his bag whether he has everything he needs. He was bringing his camera with him as he was the photographer for the school's website.
'Are you guys ready?' asked Kai jumping in his excitement. Soobin and Taehyun nodded with their masks in their hands. 'Then what are we waiting for?!' said the youngest as he walked out of Tae's room. They rushed down the stairs and Tae quickly waved goodbye to his parents in the living room.
'Imma just send your picture to your Dad quickly' typed on his phone Kai.
'Awesome' sighed Soobin, knowing how obsessed his Dad was with this Valentine's party.
'Dear Mr Choi!... Soobin... is about to... get laid...' read out loud Kai as he was typing. Taehyun laughed loudly while Soobin gasped and snatched the phone away from the maknae.
'HUENING!!

Soobin couldn't lie, the student council really outdid themselves when it came to the masquerade ball. The whole school was beautifully decorated by Hongjoong and his team. Balloons and garlands were put up everywhere in the hallways which was already gorgeous (and maybe a tiny bit even kitschy, but isn't that what Valentine's Day is about...?) but when the boys stepped inside the gym where the dance was held, their jaws dropped.
The whole room was basically turned into a ballroom, as if they were at a real royal ball. Students were everywhere, wearing masks, girls wearing long, princess-like dresses and boys and other girls wearing suits and tuxedos. Yujin was right: everyone looked like a real prince or princess.
'It would be a waste to skip this, don't you think?' asked Kai, adjusting his mask on his eyes. Soobin nodded behind his black glittery mask that matched his suit.
'The dance team even prepared a real waltz performance for later' informed them Taehyun.
'Ooooh, there's food! Come on!!' yelled Kai and grabbed Tae's sleeve, the two of them disappearing in the crowd from Soobin's eyes in the blink of an eye.
Soobin looked around in the ballroom with a slight frown. Everyone was with their partner, most couples were dancing or kissing on the dance floor to the tunes playing from the speakers. His friends were busy with the food, and the masks made it even harder for him to recognize anyone he could talk to.
Even though he was kind of happy that he went to the school dance, Soobin had never felt so alone before.
