A/N: It's almost my birthday here yeaahhh I'M OLD and yeahh I'm one of the cursed children who have their birthday basically at Christmas lol
Anyways, this is kind of a filler chapter, the characters will begin taking action in Operation YeonBin from the next chapter. I struggled a lot with figuring out how a modern day Cinderella would try to find their Prince Charming, but in the end I'm kind of satisfied with the outcome of the story... but not so fast, let's continue with this part!
.
'... apparently I've taken some really good pictures at the dance but I'm still not sure which ones to present to the school website editors and I only have a day to pick them!' gabbled Taehyun on the phone. Soobin sighed.
'Can't Kai just help you with deciding? I'm really busy at the moment' he said and grabbed another book from the bookshelf, contemplating whether it would help with his essay or not. Probably not.
'He can't. He is on a date' said Tae and Soobin dropped the book hearing that.
'Wait, wHAT?!' he screeched into the phone. He earned a shush and a glare from the librarian. He didn't blame her, the lady was already mad at him for when Taehyun called a minute earlier and his Baby Shark ringtone went off loudly. Of course it was Kai fiddling with his phone trying out different ringtones that day.
He gave the librarian an apologetic look and picked up the book from the floor. 'What?!' he continued quietly.
'I said what I said. He was asked out by another sophomore he danced with on Friday. He is taking a different course so I don't know him... Beomjin or Beomhan or Beomgyu or something... Kai has his head in the clouds since then. And I'm in a crisis here, hyung, you have to help me!!' whined the younger, switching back to the topic of photography. Soobin groaned.
'Okay, okay, I'll help you. I'll go over once I'm done with this' he played with the book between his hands. He was supposed to prepare for next week's exam and he also had to finish his essay, and being the procrastinator he was, obviously he was doing it last minute.
'You're a lifesaver, hyung!! See you later then!' said Taehyun and they ended the call.
.
'DAD!! I'm going to Tae's place!' shouted Soobin while putting his shoes back on.
'First of all, stop yelling, I'm right here!' stepped out Mr Choi from the bathroom next to him. 'Second, you just got home! At least eat something!'
'I had lunch at uni! The sooner I help Tae, the sooner I'll be home to study' explained Soobin.
'Okay, okay... What's so urgent anyways?' asked his Dad.
'I need to help him with selecting the photos for the school website from Friday's party' said Soobin putting on his coat.
'Okay then. I hope there will be some nice pictures of you though! Your old man would love to see how you looked at the dance' said his Dad as he began walking back towards the living room.
Soobin felt the imaginary lightbulb light up in his head. Of course! Why didn't he think of it sooner?! The photos, Tae must've taken photos of his mystery man!
'Dad, you're a genius!!' exclaimed Soobin and rushed up to his surprised father, kissing him on the cheek. 'I'll be home for dinner!' he added and grabbing his bag he stormed out of the house. His Dad stared after him dumbfounded.
Youngsters these days...
.
'I almost thought you were actually excited because you can help a friend in need, then turns out you are only here for your man' shook his head Taehyun in disappointment as he scrolled through the pictures on his computer with Soobin following his every movement with his eyes.
He found Tae on the verge of a nervous breakdown in his dark room, sitting on the middle of his bed in front of his laptop with his camera put aside and his reading glasses on, drinking coffee and looking at pictures. To Soobin it looked like Taehyun was a tiny bit dramatic and was much more concerned about a damn post on the website than any of his exams that semester. Probably because he was the only one having brain cells in their friend group and exams weren't much of a problem for him.
'If you were in my place you'd be like this too' said Soobin, his eyes scanning through the pictures of the dance.
'Okay, you have a point' nodded Taehyun and continued scrolling. 'I remember that I took a picture of you two in case you end up marrying him and having kids, you know, to save the moment you first met' he explained.
'And why didn't you tell me sooner?! I was freaking out the whole weekend!!' said Soobin in annoyance.
'Because I only had time to start thinking about the pictures today! Jeez, hyung, you need to chill out! No one is taking him away from you!' said the younger.
'You can't know that!' said Soobin, thoughts filling his head immediately. Probably a shit ton of other boys and girls are after his mystery man too. Maybe Soobin is already late! Maybe-
'Hyung, stop overthinking!!'
'I wasn't overthinking!' said Soobin.
'Yes you were. I know that face you make when you overthink' said Taehyun and adjusted his reading glasses. Then suddenly Soobin yelled out.
'Stop!! Look, there!' he gasped and pointed at the laptop. Taehyun spotted the picture too and clicked on it, the two of them leaning closer to the screen.
'It's really him' said Tae quietly. Soobin's heartbeat quickened once he saw the picture. It was of him and the mystery boy on the dance floor, staring into each other's eyes. The boy looked just as beautiful as he remembered and he had to admit, they looked good together. Unfortunately from the angle and the distance of the picture he still couldn't recognize anything about him.
'It's us' he whispered.
