I AWOKE BY THE SMELL of lavender and hyacinth.

Lestat was preparing a bath in his chamber when I stood up from his bed. I was still wobbly from the crash, but my wounds that could lead to death if I were still mortal were now healed. My cracked skull was back to normal, so were my other broken ligaments, and cuts on my skin.

"Oh, you're up sooner than I thought." Lestat spoke while he poured scented oil in the tub filled with water.

"You carried me to your home?"

"Our home." He corrected. "I told whoever in charge in Mardi's to deliver your belongings here by tomorrow."

"You didn't have to."

"Of course, I have to. You're now my companion. We're meant to stay together."

He uttered those words so sincerely, that I couldn't help but chuckle. "I'm stuck with you now, huh?"

Lestat raised his hand toward me. "Come, you need to scrub your blood away."

I took off my clothes, and when they're all on the floor, I sauntered to him and grabbed his hand. Lestat gently guided me in the bath, and when I was submerged in the water, he too took off his clothes and joined me in the tub.

Lestat sat behind me, washing my hair with cherry scented shampoo, drawing away the filth that dirtied it. Then, his hands glided down my back and began to gently scrub the dried blood that clung relentlessly on my skin.

"What were you thinking rushing off the road like that?" His tone was reprimanding, but was soft in worry. "You should've used your heightened senses to dodge the automobile driving your way."

"The loud noises in the street blocked everything. It was overwhelming. I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault. It's the driver's."

"Is he alright?"

"For a moment... before I decapitated him when no one's looking."

"That was unnecessary."

"He deserved it."

I hugged my knees as I felt the sponge went all over behind me. I studied in silence the ripples of the water, and our steady breathing, trying to distract my mind from reminiscing what I saw in the street earlier.

Rose....

It couldn't be.

"What are you thinking?" Lestat asked again, setting aside the sponge.

"It's bothering you that you can't listen to my thoughts anymore, isn't it?"

"I miss discovering your secrets, and how you blush every time I say it out loud."

I laughed a little. "That's the best part. I finally have privacy."

"This is the price I hate to pay. I can no longer link your mind with mine and have a bond through it. It was completely erased once I turned you."
