I HEARD THE WHISPERS of her speeding steps and followed it until we reached the west wing of the manor at the third floor. Then... I heard screams and grunts and furniture crashing. It was coming from the grand common room.

I stood a few steps before the double doors made of mahogany, but now was charred and withering away. I was about to open it when it burst into smithereens after something propelled through it. Dust rose up making the scene foggy, but when it cleared, I saw Tala on the ground surrounded with broken pieces of the door.

"Tala!" I called.

She only hissed at me like a snake, flashing her sharp fangs threateningly. Her eyes got more blacker, her skin was turning paler and gray and shriveled, and her luscious black hair was becoming silver. She looked like she had aged a few decades deprived of blood and sleep that made her immortal youth perish and slowly dessicate.

I was frozen. I was hurt beyond compare seeing her like this. Cursed and rotting.

Tala shot up then quickly rushed back inside, angrier and violent. I followed behind, and upon entering, I saw Loreléi standing in the middle of a circle made of salt. It was in no doubt in a spell that protected her from malevolent creatures. A book was on a desk before her. It was old and full of written ancient spells. I was guessing that it's the grimoire of hexes, Zacharias was trying to find.

Tala tried her best to move past the line of salt, but it worked as a barrier around Loreléi. She groaned in frustration while Loreléi smiled victoriously.

The hateful witch began to flip a page and as she was about to read again, Tala picked up an iron club then hurled it at her. It pierced Loreléi in the shoulder, and the force took her out of the salt circle. The sharp tip of the club that went through her flesh made her get pinned on the wall.

Loreléi screamed in pain as her blood trickled down on her velvet gown, seeping through the fabric. Tala sauntered closer at her, black eyes blazing in rage. Loreléi panicked. Her adrenaline made her pull out the club piercing her shoulder by herself in a haste, then used it to strike Tala by the side of her face. The iron club marred Tala's cheek with a deep thin line of red starting just below her left eye and down to the corner of her lips. Her regeneration came delayed, and so the laceration on her face remained open and spouting a lot of blood. This made Tala more aggressive.

Tala pried her lips open, flashing her sharp fangs, then lounged at Loreléi to bite her. Loreléi held out the iron club horizontally to block Tala's chomping mouth. But still, she kept going at her like a rabid dog, hungry for the taste of flesh and bones.

"Why are you just standing there?!" Zach yelled as he came from behind me. "Pull them apart!"

I glanced at him with an amused look. "Should I?"

"Damn you, Lestat!" Then he trudged toward the two to separate them himself.

However, before he could, Loreléi muttered an incantation, and the ruby amulet around her neck glowed a vibrant red. Then suddenly, Tala was thrown at the other side of the room.
