"IT WAS MANY AND MANY a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me..."Rose smiled as I read her favorite poem, while her head rested on my lap. She had always been an Edgar Allan Poe girl, taking comfort in darkness and cynicism and sadness - she found beauty in it, perhaps because she got so familiar with it, that it's the only thing she could see. It's one of the things I loved about her. She wasn't afraid to confront darkness.
We were under the shade of our favorite tree at the park, feeling the fresh breeze on our faces, smelling the sweet scent of flowers and dewdrops, and loving the time we had with each other.
It was so peaceful. Just the two of us - breathing, laughing, loving. It's easier when it's just us.
"It won't be long until you visit me again." Rose said.
"Visit?" She made me laugh. "We're always together, Rose."
Rose reached for my cheek, and cupped it gently, as she smiled with a tinge of sadness. "No, we are not."
I frowned. "What? Of course we are."
Rose suddenly stood up and walked away. I tried to reach for her, but my hands crashed onto something firm and solid - causing a loud noise. A loud thud echoed in my ears, making my eyes blink, then darkness engulfed my senses.
"What the hell?"
I was no longer outdoors with the flowers and trees. I was suddenly in a narrow compartment, and there was nothing but darkness. A soft velvet cushion was aiding my back, and the scent of lavender and lilac erupted from it. I then realized I was in my coffin. And that, the face of Rose that I once again had seen, was nothing but an elaborate dream of my aching heart screaming in melancholy. And just when I thought it's not getting any complicated, memories from past events came flooding right back in my head: how Lestat gutted and killed Alejandro, how he threw me on the tracks to get crushed by a train - all of it.
I felt Lestat's presence nearby. By the sound of it, he was packing his belongings. "Lestat!" I shouted, as my hands continued to knock on the close lid of my casket. "Let me out!"
"Ah, so you're awake! You've been asleep for two days, you know. That train really knocked you down."
"Let me out Lestat or I swear I'll -"
"You'd be locked in there until we arrived in Rome, Italy."
"What?!"
"Everything's ready. We're leaving as soon as the sun sets."
"I'm not going anywhere with you!"
"You will, ma petite étoile. You will.
"No! You kidnapped me!"
