Sponge - A sponge is a cleaning tool made of soft, porous material and is typically used for cleaning impervious (impenetrable) surfaces. Sponges are especially good at absorbing water and water-based solutions. Their porous and sponge like nature allows them to absorb large quantities of liquids and their coarse base, a useful tool in scraping and scrubbing off grime and residual dirt left behind.

Because of their accommodative nature, sponges can absorb and take up a lot without deforming their initial state. They also go back to their original state once all that they've absorbed has been squeezed out of them, preparing them for the next surface they have to scrub and clean.
What happens then when there is no one to squeeze out of them the dirt and water they've absorbed? What happens when they reach their quota of absorption? With no one present to squeeze out all that was absorbed, what would the life cycle of a sponge look like? How durable would they be?

Imagine a human being with sponge-like qualities...what would become of them?

The sponge, always available and ready to help you out of your mess, not caring about how they would be implicated or if they held the capacity to take off from you that which made you dirty and burdened.

The sponge, at the ready to ensure your reputation and image is protected, is loyal to keeping you clean at all times and hating completely anything that may compromise that.

The sponge, the absorber of all things negative. The peace maker, they'd rather absorb all the offence and bitterness than let it spread around.

The sponge, first to tend to the ugliness of others and not their own.

The sponge. Always tending to the wounds of others and not their own.

The sponge, always absorbing and never releasing to a point where even their own identity and the core of who they are gets blurred in between the hundreds of emotions, principles, opinions and challenges of life from others.

The sponge, always absorbing and agreeing with where it "cleans," adopting negative connotations and feelings that have nothing to do with them but choose to make them their own.

The sponge, the self-proclaimed martyr.

Before you become a "sponge," ask yourself this: Is there someone at the ready to squeeze out of you all that you've absorbed? And is someone at the ready for them as well?

Some things are better left inanimate. Let a sponge be a sponge, and a human being, a human being.
