She's perfect.
I haven't been able to stop staring at her since the moment Catalina put her in my arms. She's really the epitome of perfection. I'm in love with her and I feel so blessed to be her mother.
Dahlia is her name. Dahlia Bianchi-Alcaraz.
Obviously, no one knows that except me and Catalina. To everyone else it's unfortunately just Dahlia Donnelley.
Catalina and I had a fake certificate for Eric to sign because he wanted to see with his own eyes that she would carry his last name. The actual certificate is hidden somewhere in Catalina's house. I asked her to make me the favor of keeping it. I was obviously the only one who signed and I'm hoping her father will be able to sign it too someday.
I gave birth here in Cat's house. It wasn't planned or expected but it was the middle of the night, and I called Cat because I was beginning to have very constant contractions. Since she became my gynecologist a few weeks ago, after she graduated residency, she checked me and then told me that the baby was coming, and we wouldn't have time to make it to the hospital.
So, I gave birth here and I'm actually kind of grateful for it because Eric didn't even make it in time. It's how quick it all happened.
I'm doing well, I went to the hospital the morning after and stayed there for a few hours to make sure that me and my baby were fine. Eric was with me the whole time and it made me feel so suffocated and annoyed. I really can't stand his presence. I rarely saw him during my pregnancy but now he is always around.
To my surprise, he really does treat Dahlia as if she were his daughter. I hate it but there isn't anything I can do about it.
"Your father adores you. I know it." Even if he doesn't know it.
"There will come a day where he will know the truth and I'm more than sure that he will love you. You're so special, my love." I gently caress the side of her small face with my finger.
She smiles and I melt. It's one of those newborn smiles where they show their gum while her eyes are shut. She's so beautiful.
"He's a great man and I know he will be an even better father which is why I fell in love with him. I love you and him." I smile, lightly tapping her small nose.
There is knock on my door and I quietly call out for the person to enter. My doctor and the best sister in the world enters with a tray of food.
"I brought you caldo de pollo that our mother and grandmother made when you were asleep." She whispers coming over to me.
I carefully hand Dahlia to her when she places the tray at the end of the bed. She carefully places her in her bassinet beside me and then puts the tray of dinner on my lap.
"Eat. You need the vitamins." She warmly smiles at me, and I do as she says.
"Your little angel needs you to be strong for her." She adds in, looking over at Dahlia with adoration.
