BRAXTON
I scan the room of the club until I see it.
Lucky for me, the vampire that keeps trespassing into my territory is a creature of habit. He comes to this club every Wednesday and Saturday to feed on humans. The sick ritual might upturn my stomach, but it did make it so effortlessly easy to find him.
I usually like a bit of a chase. It makes the kill far more rewarding.
I let out an irritated sigh as I stand up to my full height. Kai, my beta, copies the movement and mind links me, "What's the plan?"
Originally, I planned on killing the bloodsucker myself. But now, after waiting far too long in this place with the incessant pounding music, I have a headache. One that will only go away when I get some fresh air and quiet.
"You can do it," I reply.
I catch the way Kai nods in my peripheral, his blonde hair swaying slightly. Then, without another word, he starts striding towards the vampire, who sits at the bar looming over an unsuspecting human female.
She stares up at him with a softness in her eyes. Like she's completely captivated by him and entirely oblivious to the impending doom that sits in front of her. They always are though—absolutely oblivious to the supernatural that live amongst them, even when they're staring them right in the face.
Considering the fact that I'm one of them, and own territory in almost the entire state of Washington, I know how many werewolves there are, just nearby. And how unaware the humans all are.
Lucky for the woman though, Kai grips the vampire's arm, effortlessly pulling him towards an exit. She looked briefly confused, but it didn't seem to phase her too much as she quickly goes back to her apparent group of friends. I eavesdrop for a moment on their conversation, just long enough to make sure there was no suspicion on her part before I too make my way towards the exit.
The strobing lights and thumping that vibrates through my body only worsens my headache. I decide to just head home, knowing Kai will be fine on his own.
The cool autumn air hits me as I push one of the metal doors open. Despite only wearing a t-shirt and jeans, I actually feel relief when the cool air surrounds me. The club is stuffy and not really my type of place. So I welcome the refreshing breeze as I start down the sidewalk.
I walk a few blocks, passing by random apartment buildings and stores until I can finally see the woods up in the distance.
Only, my steps stop on their own when a specific smell catches my full attention.
My wolf stirs within me, urging me to find the source. When I quicken my pace, the sweet vanilla and lilac smell gets stronger.
Just as I approach an alleyway, the sound of a muffled scream reaches my ears. My head snaps to my left.
And then I see her.
Mate. My wolf growls.
There's a moment of shock, until it's quickly replaced by adrenaline as I take in the full sight of her. Pressed against the alleyway wall by a man that has no right to be touching what's not his.
And a single once over of the two of them tells me he didn't have permission to touch her in the first place.
My wolf takes over and I sprint towards the two of them. The second I reach them, I rip the man off of my mate. Rage blurs my vision with red as I beat him until he's almost lifeless on the ground.
