                              BRAXTON

Eight days have passed.

I leaned back in my leather chair and ran a hand through my hair. Letting out an irritated sigh, I let my hand fall from my hair and make its way down my face. The sound of the office door opening caught my attention and I glanced up to see Kai.

"Any news?" I asked while leaning forward and placing my elbows on the large wooden desk.

He simply shook his head in response. I felt my blood begin to boil as I stood up. Kai lowered his gaze to the floor as I began to pace around the room. My hand found it's way back into my hair again, it was a habit that I subconsciously found myself doing anytime I was upset.

"Where the fuck is she? I need to find her." My question was rhetorical, Kai knew that and kept his head down.

I had barely slept or eaten since she'd left. It was 3am right now, and all I could think about was her. Finding her. I felt like I was being ripped apart.  My heart ached with each passing day and my wolf's anger only intensified.

The memory of that morning when I first discovered she had left filled my thoughts. I had shifted back into my wolf almost immediately as I was filled with rage. I did, regretfully, severely injure a few wolves who were supposed to be guarding the house. However, Kai had luckily stopped me from doing any permanent damage.

My wolf had completely taken over, and I had let myself lean back in my own mind.
After I had taken my anger out on my pack members, I set out to follow her scent. I traced it to the edge of Seattle's city limits but lost it shortly after that. The amount of people in the city muddled her smell until it was no longer traceable.

Even thought I had left alone, Kai and a few others had followed me to help. But I soon realized that no one else could even smell the sweet vanilla and lilac that was my mate, which meant she had used an invisibility spell. I had to search for her alone. After looking for five days, I had nothing to show for it. Finally, I made my way back into my territory to form a better plan.

My pack had continued to guard our borders, so the vampire who was after my mate wouldn't be suspicious that she had even left. However, Kai had informed me that he hadn't made anymore attempts to enter my territory. It definitely worried me and I couldn't help but think that maybe he had gotten to her. I reassured myself over and over though that her invisibility spell worked and only I was able to trace her scent.

He couldn't have found her. I repeated those words to myself countless times. Hope was the only thing I was surviving on right now.

Still, I couldn't help myself from being skeptical about him and how truthful he was being about threatening to involve the high coven council. Why would they be interested in her whereabouts? Just the thought of them being after my mate made my blood boil. Especially now that she was gone and I didn't have any way to protect her.

I kept pacing until finally I cleared the memories and my thoughts. I couldn't take it any longer. I couldn't just sit here anymore. Brushing past Kai without a word, I walked out of my office into the hallway of the pack house. Making my way out of the large wooden front doors. My wolf was urging to shift, but I held him back.

"Do you have a plan?" I heard Kai ask behind me.

"Not really but I'm going back to Seattle. She's got to still be there."

I said it confidently, but honestly I had no idea where she was. She could be halfway across the country at this point for all I know. The thought made my wolf whimper with a mixture of sadness anger, causing a growl to escape me.

Why would she do this to me? And to make it worse, the last thing she said to me was 'stop touching me'. The words echoed through my head, only causing more sadness to wash over me.
