BRAXTON
"I have to leave. I'll be back in a little bit." I say from inside the closet as I pull on a pair of dark jeans.
Adeline comes around the corner with her brows furrowed, wearing only a towel. Her hair is still dripping wet on her back and I feel my eyes darken at the sight despite the fact that we just had sex.
She pulls the toothbrush from her mouth before she asks, "Where are you going?"
"To finish dealing with something."
I feel bad for keeping this from her, but I don't want her to worry. Taylor had mind linked me in the middle of the night saying that Axel had come back into the territory. We chased him almost all the way into town before we managed to capture him. Then we brought him back to the pack house and chained him in the basement. He refused to say anything about the high coven council witches when I had interrogated him initially, so I left. I figured maybe isolation would do him so good.
"What is it? You never told me." Adeline presses.
I let out a sigh, knowing she's going to be mad when I don't tell her. But I won't. She was so stressed in my office yesterday— I don't want to see her like that again if I have any control over it.
I pull on a white t-shirt before responding, completely avoiding the question. "Don't go anywhere while I'm gone. I already have people patrolling the house."
Her eyes turn to slits at the sound of my words. I close the space between us, placing my hands on her hips and pulling her towards me. "I will tell you. Just not right now."
She rolls her eyes before placing the toothbrush back into her mouth, finishing brushing her teeth. When she turns to go back into the bathroom, I don't stop her. As she disappears back around the corner, I feel my hands go up into my hair. Letting out a sigh, I run my hand down my face and then over my jaw. I really do feel bad for not telling her what's going on.
The sound of the sink water turning on in the bathroom pulls me from my thought. I trudge over to the doorway, letting my eyes roam up Adeline's body until they settle on her face in the reflection of the mirror. She meets my gaze and sets her toothbrush down on the counter before turning around to face me. Her arms fold over her chest and I can't help but notice how much the action makes her breasts push together.
"I thought you were leaving." She says, pulling my attention back up to her face.
I frown at the her tone, clearly laced with annoyance. "I am."
"Okay, then go."
My frown only deepens. I step towards her until were only inches apart— she didn't move at all, her arms are still stubbornly folded. My hands find their way onto the cold vanity counter, on either side of her hips. My eyes lock with hers as I lean down until her scent is consuming my every inhale. My gaze falters, until it rests on her lips. Just as I lean down even more, she turns her face away from me. A low growl escapes me, my wolf displeased with the rejection.
"No." She says, turning her face back to look at me while she talks.
"No what?" I question her.
"I don't want a kiss."
I growl again. "Why not?"
"I'm annoyed. You're not telling me what you were doing earlier and where you're going now."
