ADELINE
I could feel Braxton's eyes on me as we walked towards the dance floor. The club was fairly large, with the bar sitting on the same wall as the entrance. There were many tables and booths that surrounding the center of the room where upwards of a hundred people were crowded together dancing. There were also the two VIP sections, each settled in a corner of the room. Braxton and the blonde guy, who I'm assuming was his beta soon vanished from my view as Emerson and I entered the crowd. Sarah and Mallory followed closely behind.
Feeling my confidence return without Braxton's gaze on me, I let myself start to dance to the beat. The girls and I eventually made our way to the center of the crowd and it wasn't long before I felt someone's hand on my lower hip. Glancing around, I noticed the girls had already begun to dance with other guys as well. A chest was then pressed against my back in an instant and I leaned in. I knew it wasn't Braxton. The guy's chest was warm, but nothing like the warmth that Braxton's touch gave me.
I felt the same twinge of sadness as I felt this morning when I realized Braxton's wolf had left my house sometime before I woke up. I wanted it to be him behind me, not some random human. But I quickly disregarded the thought. The two shots were flowing through me and I allowed myself to just enjoy the moment.
However, my enjoyment didn't last long at all. The guy's hands were suddenly pulled away and from the harshness of it, I could tell it wasn't his doing. I turned around to see what had happened only to be faced with Braxton. It didn't take me longer than a second to register his demeanor. He was definitely pissed off. His eyes were shining bright gold and he had a scowl on his face.
If I didn't have any alcohol in me, I might've actually felt a little intimidated. He stood over me while glaring at the guy who I had just been dancing with. A growl escaped his lips, but it was so low that only I heard it. The guy looked really confused but quickly put his hands up as if to show he wasn't a threat. He then yelled "sorry man I didn't know she was taken" before quickly disappearing into the crowd.
I was mentally thanking the DJ for making the music so loud, otherwise the situation would have definitely been a scene. However, everyone seemed completely oblivious to what had just happened, even the girls as they continued to dance without even so much as a glance in my direction.
Putting my focus back on Braxton, I suddenly became very aware of how close we were. We weren't touching yet but I could feel the warmth from him already. He was definitely very pissed off and his breathing was heavy as his golden eyes finally made their way to mine.
He stepped closer until we were chest to chest. His hands casually found their way to my hips, causing the warmth to spread pleasurably throughout my body. I reveled in the feeling. He then leaned down until his lips were touching my ear. My heart rate increased as I felt his lips part slowly before he spoke.
"What do you think you're doing little witch" he asked in a low voice.
My hands had been glued to my sides until this point. The realization then settled over me that I could easily take control of this situation. He had protected me in the alleyway and was clearly already being possessive of me. In my opinion, werewolves only weaknesses were their mates. And although I was not 100% sure that we were mates, I was fairly confident at this point considering it did add up.
I felt a sudden burst of courage go through me. I snaked my arms up until they were around his neck and I lightly began to make circles with my fingertips. Then I mimicked his movement, turning my head until my lips were against his ear.
"Whatever I want" I whispered back.
I could instantly tell he did not like my answer as another low growl escaped his lips. I couldn't stop myself when a small giggle passed my lips in response. I'll blame it on the alcohol. Admittedly, I was definitely a light weight considering I don't typically drink at all.
