                              BRAXTON

I couldn't even count the number of times I had glanced into my rear view mirror to make sure Adeline was still following me home. She had said she would follow and I wanted to trust her, but I was still skeptical. She had mentioned leaving town this morning and I couldn't help but worry that she would take a sudden turn every time we passed another road.

Finally, after opening the gate, we made our way down the driveway to my house. She was still behind me in her jeep and a sigh of relief escaped me. Kai and Taylor's trucks came into view as I parked my vehicle in front of the house. Taylor was my delta and has been managing southern border patrol. Kai on the other hand, has been patrolling the northern border. He had mind linked me earlier telling me they were going to stop by with some new information.

I hopped out of my truck and they did the same. Adeline stayed in her jeep, thankfully. I didn't want her hearing what we were talking about. I didn't want her to worry about anything.

"What's the news" I spoke first.

"The fucking bloodsucker is very persistent." Kai said.

I glanced back at Adeline. She was looking directly at us through the windshield of her jeep. I looked back at Kai and Taylor, wiping a palm down my face. Why did a vampire have to be after my mate? I still needed answers from her.

"What else?"

"Do you think she can hear us?" Taylor asked instead of answering my question, which irritated me. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Doubt it. But I'll make her go inside anyways." I said in very obvious annoyed tone before I made my way over to her car door and opened it.

"You should go inside. I'll be in in a couple minutes." my tone was softer now as I held eye contact with her.

Her green eyes searched mine before she leaned over to grab her cat. She didn't say anything in response as she brushed past me, giving me the fleeting feeling of warmth as her arm grazed my torso. I followed behind her until I reached Kai and Taylor once again and then watched as she entered the house.

"Better?" I asked while looking at Taylor. My annoyed tone had returned. He didn't respond but simply looked down in submission.

Kai interrupted the silence that followed "We chased him away again, but this is already the third time he's tried coming back. I don't think he's going to give up anytime soon and it's exhausting border patrol already."

I scoffed lightly. "It's only been a day, everyone can suck it up for a little while. He does seem persistent but I don't think he'll keep coming back forever especially if he's by himself."

"He mentioned something about the high coven council and how they'll all be back to get her." Taylor said

"Why would they care?" My mind began to wander. First a vampire and now the high coven council? What kind of trouble was my mate in?

"Not sure, he didn't go into detail." Taylor responded.

I felt myself getting angrier and my breathing was starting to increase. And Kai's next words only angered me further. "You haven't even claimed her. It'll be hard to convince the pack to keep protecting her when she's not our Luna yet."

I growled lowly as I clenched my fists. Kai looked down at the ground just had Taylor had done moments ago, an act of submission.

"She is our Luna with or without my claim and no one will question it." I managed to say through gritted teeth. She was without a doubt my mate, and my Luna. My pack's Luna. And no one should question that.
