I watched as Adeline wiped her palms on her thighs for the second time. I knew she was nervous and no doubt overthinking, I could practically hear how fast her heart was beating.

"You can't win a fight against them." She says, her gaze flickering back up to me.

Her words instantly ignited a fire, causing my blood to boil. My wolf growls, but I don't let it escape me. I know she's panicking, but still, I don't like how my own mate is doubting me.

"There's more of us and we're physically stronger than them. All they have is stupid little spells." I snap back confidently.

She just shakes her head in response, worry taking over her expression. I clench my jaw at the action. She usually has a smart ass remark in response, not silence. It only irks me further.

I look over my shoulder at Kai and Taylor, who both have their eyes fixed on Adeline. I know they can sense her uneasiness and their stares are only out of concern. But I was already pissed off at Adeline for concealing my claim on her and this conversation really didn't help my mood. And now Taylor and Kai are looking at my mate. I know I'm being overly possessive, but I don't want them gazing at her.

"Get out." I growl at them.

I see Kai exhale in frustration, but he simply obeys as he turns on his heel and exits the room. Taylor follows closely and shuts the door behind him. I feel myself slightly relax with them gone and quickly turn my attention back to Adeline. She wipes her palms for a third time on her thighs and then stands up from the chair.

"I want to go home." Her voice is quiet and pleading as she peers up at me.

I let out a sigh as my right hand subconsciously makes its way into my hair. She really is infuriating. She ran away from me, she defies me, and yet I would let her do it over and over again. Because she's mine. She's mine to be infuriated by.

I bring my hand down, dragging it over my face before crossing it back over my chest. "Undo the spell and we can go." I say, looking down at the base of her neck.

"Seriously, that's what you're concerned about right now? Also when were you going to tell me they were here last night?" Her eyes narrow on mine, mimicking my stance and folding her arms over her chest.

"Probably never. You don't need to worry about them, I'm handling it." I respond truthfully.

She opens her mouth to speak again, but I beat her to it. "And yes I am concerned about the fact that I can't see my claim on you."

I take a step towards her, unfolding my arms in the process. Surprisingly, she doesn't back away, making it easy for me to grip the side of her neck with one hand and her waist with the other. I revel in the feeling of her soft skin under my rough hands, the feeling stronger than ever. Her arms remain folded over her chest in a stubborn manner and she tilts her head up, maintaining eye contact with me.

"It's driving me crazy Adeline." I say, my tone lower than before.

"Deal with it."

She really is so infuriating.

I take a deep breath, inhaling her intoxicating scent, the perfect mixture of vanilla and lilac. It's contradictory how she's both the cause of my anger and the one keeping me calm.

I exhale as my eyes wander down her neck, not knowing quite how to respond. If I've learned anything about Adeline so far, it's that she doesn't respond well to orders. But she does respond to my touch.
