ADELINE
As we walked through the entrance, I took in the open concept of the home. The ceilings we very tall, making the space feel impossibly larger. The living room was directly in front of me from where I had stopped in the entryway. I first noticed the massive stone fireplace. The floor to ceiling windows made up the entire wall that sat behind a dark grey couch. There were also two matching armchairs that faced the windows. A bare wooden coffee table rested in between the chairs and couch. The room looked very inviting with the couch being covered in a soft white throw blanket and beige pillows.
I followed Kai as he made his way to the kitchen which was to the right of the living room. A wooden dining room table with a bench and four chairs sat in front of a large island. Behind the island was the rest of the kitchen that took up an entire wall until it was met with long hallway on the right side. The wooden cabinets were stained a dark shade and the marble countertops were a dark grey with white lines throughout. Looking back out of the windows, I saw that the house actually overlooked a lake. The couch must've obstructed my view of it when I first entered the house.
Kai casually grabbed a glass cup from an upper cabinet and filled it with water from the fridge. He outstretched his arm, handing it to me.
"Thanks" I murmured before taking a small sip.
"Make yourself at home, Braxton will be here soon."
I glanced around the room again, trying to decide if I should sit at the table or the couch. I noticed Kai out of the corner of my eye and saw him pull his phone out of his pocket. He leaned over the counter and soon became engaged with whatever he was doing. I was still slightly taken aback at how calm he seemed about this whole situation. But to be honest, I didn't have any interest in having a conversation with him, so I made my way over to the couch. It was further away from him.
I sat down on the couch making a conscious effort to sit carefully with how short my dress was. I had left my jacket in my car, knowing the dress looked better without it on. I was regretting that decision right now. The fireplace wasn't on and I suddenly felt cold as goosebumps went up my legs. I was tempted to use the throw blanket, but held myself back. I didn't want to get to comfortable here.
I pulled my phone out my clutch and mentally thanked myself for somehow keeping a hold of it during the chaotic events that unfolded over the past hour.
I tapped on the screen but when nothing happened I let out an annoyed sigh. My phone was dead. Great.
I suddenly felt really awkward. Now I had to sit here and just stare at my feet while I waited for Braxton to get here. I let my thoughts go to Ember, who was probably wondering where I was at this point. I let out another sigh. I needed to come up with a plan on how I'm going to leave now that I know Braxton and I are mates and I have a strong feeling he wouldn't be happy with me leaving town. I needed to get far away from Axel though.
I was pulled from my thoughts as I heard the sudden sound of a door opening and closing. I looked up to the large front doors but saw they were unmoved. I quickly came to the conclusion that it was obviously another entrance into the house. Looking over at Kai, I noted that he didn't seem alarmed in the least. He hadn't even moved from his position and was still leaned over the counter scrolling through his phone. So Braxton must be here.
My suspicion was confirmed when he walked out from the hallway by the kitchen a minute later. He wore only a pair of grey sweatpants that hung low on his hips. I admired his bare chest, he was perfectly sculpted with defined abs and arms. My eyes then traveled up to his bright gold ones. I could tell he'd just shifted back as his wolf was still present.
"Leave" he growled out while walking towards me. Despite the fact that he was looking right at me, we all knew the comment was directed at Kai who promptly left out the front doors without saying anything.
