                              ADELINE

It was approaching dusk when we finally arrived back at Braxton's house. As we pulled in, I saw two trucks sitting in the driveway. The first was a white chevy silverado and the second was an older grey ford f150. Once Braxton parked and got out of his truck, one man got out of each vehicle. I recognized Kai right away when he stepped out of the chevy and I let my eyes wander to the other guy. I didn't recognize him but noted his black hair and dark eyes. He was definitely another werewolf.

I couldn't hear what they were saying but I stayed in my seat and watched as they exchanged some words. Braxton glanced back at me twice until he finally walked over to my car door and opened it.

"You should go inside. I'll be in in a couple minutes." was all he said. There was a hint of something in his tone, concern or worry maybe, but I couldn't quite place it.

I grabbed Ember from the passenger seat and then brushed past Braxton as I made my way to the front doors. I passed Kai and the black haired guy, who made eye contact with me. I noticed as he looked down to my neck for moment until I narrowed my eyes at him causing him to quickly averted his gaze. After entering through the front door, I set Ember down and watched as she scurried off somewhere into the house.

I couldn't help but wonder what they were talking about outside and decided to eavesdrop. It wasn't usually something I would do, but I knew they were talking about me and needed to know what it was about.

"Locito" I said, which allowed me to hear their voices clearly.

"We chased him away again, but this is already the third time he's tried coming back. I don't think he's going to give up anytime soon and it's exhausting border patrol already." I recognized Kai's voice.

"It's only been a day, everyone can suck it up for a little while. He does seem persistent but I don't think he'll keep coming back forever especially if he's by himself." Braxton spoke.

"He mentioned something about the high coven council and how they'll all be back to get her." It must've been the black haired guy who spoke this time.

"Why would they care?" Braxton asked.

"Not sure, he didn't go into detail." Was all the black haired guy said in response.

Shit, I mentally thought. If Axel really did tell the high coven council where I am they would definitely be after me soon too. Axel has never told them about where I am, he wants to kill me himself but no doubt in this situation, he knows he can't get to me alone so he needs help.

Kai's voice interrupted my thoughts, "You haven't even claimed her. It'll be hard to convince the pack to keep protecting her when she's not our Luna yet."

Braxton growled in response before saying "She is our Luna with or without my claim and no one will question it."

I scoffed lightly, I definitely wasn't a Luna. I won't deny the mate bond between Braxton and I anymore. But to be a Luna to a pack of werewolves was an entirely different thing that I was not interested in in the least.

There was a short silence before Kai spoke again. "You're right. We will make sure no one questions it. We'll keep up border patrol, but I do think it would be a good idea to address the pack in person so they can meet her."

I felt my heart rate slightly increase. I was also not particularly interested in meeting the entire pack of werewolves. The idea made me feel nervous but also slightly guilty. Braxton was making them protect me and they didn't even know me. And to be honest I didn't even want their protection, I've been alone for as long as I can remember now. I didn't need anyone looking after me, especially werewolves. If anything, this was making me feel the urge to leave this town even more.
