TW: cheesy shit that makes me realize how lonely I actually am

(this chapter is gonna be a little cheesy, but what's a little romance without a bit of fondue?)

Kai was slowly starting to get the hang of ice skating. After about an hour of practicing, Kai could finally skate on his own-- although he was still a little shaky and had to hold Casey's hand from time to time.

It was only eleven at night and they both seemed to be having fun. Kai could tell that Casey wanted to go faster and show off his tricks and stuff, but he was patiently waiting for Kai to be able to skate without any help at all. He was being incredibly considerate and really nice to Kai, which was amazing, but did not help Kai's feelings about him at all. Throughout the lessons, he constantly was racked with pains of guilt for not telling Casey who he really was or that he was only close to him because the Shredder wanted the turtles wiped off the face of the Earth. Casey was close to the turtles and therefore Kai had to be close to Casey to reach the turtles.

It was a roundabout way of saying that he needed to betray Casey to live.

He felt Casey speed up a little, sliding across the ice while pulling Kai behind him. Kai watched how happy Casey looked. He was right in his element, gliding across the cold surface with practiced grace-- although off the ice, Casey was one of the least graceful people Kai knew. Kai tried to keep up, but his feet were not used to the slippery surface.

The speed became all too much for Kai and he slipped. His face was close to coming in contact with the ice when he realized that his hand was still intertwined with Casey's, pulling him down with him. He felt Casey's momentum behind him turning him around in the air. His back slammed against the hard ice, releasing all his breath from where it was trapped in his lungs. He quickly shut his eyes to take his attention away from the pain throbbing at the back of his head.

He heard someone grunt in surprise, but didn't dare open his eyes. He felt a weight on his legs. It wasn't moving. He slowly pried his eyes open, Casey staring back at him, his dark eyes shining and face flushed with red. Kai was sure that his face matched. Their legs were sprawled out across the ice. The dark hair that was slipping out of Casey's bandanna tickled the sides of Kai's face, drawing attention to the little amount of space that was currently between them.

Casey had his hands firmly planted on either side of Kai's head to keep him from completely collapsing on top of his friend. Kai's eyes were scrunched up tightly, hands in loose fists near his shoulders. Casey thought he looked cute with his dual-colored hair spread across the cold ice, flecks of frost stuck in it. Casey wanted nothing other than to run his fingers through the hair and help remove the frost. However, he kept his hands on the ice, away from Kai.

He watched as Kai slowly opened his eyes, his dark green eyes widening in surprise at their current situation. Casey felt his face heat up, mirroring the tomato that his friend had become. Kai's hands slowly unfurled as he rubbed his lips together, looking anywhere but at Casey.

Casey said nothing. His brain had short circuited. He was well aware of their current position and quickly realized that he was probably making Kai uncomfortable by not moving.

One problem though. Ice was very slippery.

Normally, Casey rolled over on his side to get up off the ice, but with someone underneath him, that was going to be difficult.

"Hey," Kai said awkwardly, locking eyes for the first time with his own. Casey tried to smile. Casey broke out into small giggles.

"Do you think that this is funny?" Kai shouted, only causing Casey to laugh harder, his slender arms shaking and threatening to drop his weight on the shorter boy. The ends of his dark hair brushed against his cheeks. Kai waited until Casey stopped laughing and gave a deadpanned face. "Are you quite finished?"
