Kai was trying to hold back his tears as he burst through the doors of the cathedral, not paying any attention to anyone around him, but heading straight to his bedroom. He clambered down the stone stairs, his vision becoming increasingly blurry due to the tears welling up in his eyes. He ran into someone in his haste, muttering a half-hearted apology and hurrying on to his room. He didn't remember his room being so far away. Finally, he arrived at the door, quickly opening it and sliding down the other side after closing it again.

He brought himself to an upright fetal position, his face in his hands and knees up next to his chest. Feeling unable to breathe, Kai ripped off his metal face mask and threw it across the room, where it landed next to his book with a soft clank.

The black eyeshadow ran down Kai's cheeks as his tears started to overflow. He tried to stay as quiet as possible; if the Shredder knew Kai was showing emotion, he wouldn't feel the end of the punishment.

A quiet knock sounded on the other side of the door above his head. Kai quickly brushed his tears away and sniffled loudly. He tried for a clear voice as he called back. "Who is it?"

"Karai," the voice answered.

Kai instantly moved out of the way of the door and allowed his sister to come into the room. "Hey, where'd you go in such a rush? You ran into me..." Karai's eyes softened as she looked at his pathetic form on the floor, still in his uncomfortable armor from the mission beforehand. She knelt down next to him and just sat there. Both Kai and Karai were a little awkward when it came to emotions, given the way they grew up, but just the silence was comforting enough for Kai to slowly calm down. Soon enough, his sobs turned to small hiccups and sniffles.

"Do... you want to talk about it?" Karai asked.

Kai shrugged his shoulders.

"Hey," she said, placing a hand on her brother's shoulder. "You know I would never judge you, right? No matter what, you're my brother and I care about you, alright?"

Kai nodded his head.

"Now, tell me what happened."

Kai took a deep, shaky breath. "I wish I had never met Casey," he said.

"What?" Karai asked incredulously. "Why?"

"I can't ever truly be myself with him and neither can he," Kai explained, his voice uncertain. "We both have double lives; one where we hate each other so much that we try to... kill each other and the second where we lo- like each other."

"Wait," Karai said. "Backtrack. What were you about to say?"

"Huh?"

"You were about to say something," she repeated. "What was it?"

"Nothing. Besides that's not the point."

"Fine." Although she dropped the subject, Karai's face still held a knowing smirk.

There was an awkward silence that ensued. Kai felt the need to tell Karai what had happened earlier that night and, before he could stop himself, the whole story tumbled out of his mouth.

"Casey and I kissed."

(okay, so it wasn't the whole story, but you have to admit, it was the main part)

Karai only blinked, absolutely flabbergasted.

"And I liked it," Kai quickly added. "I think he did too. He gave me one of his shirts. So."

"Wow. Um, that's a predicament," Karai said.

"Then I threatened to shoot him in the head."

"I'm sorry, what?"
