TW: blood, death mentions, EmOtiOnS
definitely a longer chapter so buckle up and enjoy
Kai felt like he was floating in a Magic 8 ball. He was floating in visible darkness, there was nothing solid in sight. All around him was solid and liquid blackness, forming shapes without the use of light. He couldn't feel anything except a painless numb sensation in his limbs. He felt as if he should feel something else. Maybe he should say something.
Kai opened his mouth, but no sound came out. He reached a hand up to his throat, feeling a gaping hole spanning the width of his neck. What was that?
Was Kai dead?
All he could remember was being held against his father as he lowered the metal blade against his throat. He remembered laying in Casey's arms. I love you. But what happened after? Was he dead? Was this the afterlife? It only felt as if Kai was in the blank space for a few minutes. He tried to move around in the darkness, but he moved as if he was in space. He flipped around in the darkness dizzily. Suddenly, he felt the darkness wrap around one of his ankles, pulling him down slowly. Or maybe it was up? There was nothing to judge was up or down. Either way, Kai let himself move with the force, unaware of anything that was about to happen.
There was a small bright light at the very center of his vision, barely bigger than a pinprick. The bright light continued to get bigger and brighter as Kai was pulled towards it, causing Kai to shut his eyes uncomfortably. It was like staring at the sun for too long. Soon enough, the whole of Kai's vision was only a bright light. As he was immersed in the light, he suddenly felt an explosion of pain. His eyes shot wide with pain and shock, surprised at the scene around him.
He was back.

"It worked!" April exclaimed in relief. She sat back on her feet folding her legs under her body and exhaled deeply. "I can't believe it."
Kai sat up in the cot quickly, immediately regretting it. He immediately became extremely dizzy. He braced himself with a hand on the wall behind him as his eyes tried to gain focus in the spinning world. "Where the f am I?" he groaned.
It was quiet for a moment before Leonardo spoke up. "You are back at the lair," Leonardo explained. "We brought you back here after the Shredder... you know."
Donnie was still standing in the corner in shock. It was not mathematically possible that Kai was back alive. "Master Splinter?" he asked. "What exactly was that scroll?"
Splinter sighed. "It was a scroll I promised myself that I would never use unless absolutely necessary. it was called the Kishi Kaisei."
"Necromancy?" Donnie asked, shocked.
"Yes, my son," Splinter sighed.
"What does it matter, dude?" Mikey asked, throwing an arm around Donnie's shoulders and pulling the purple turtle down to his level. "Shadowman is back, baby! Casey is gonna be so hyped!"
"Casey?" Kai asked from the cot. He had turned himself, having his legs hang over the seat and dangle in midair. The turtles really had no idea how short the boy was until they saw this. Raphael, the shortest one out of all of them besides April, had to stifle a laugh. "Where's Casey?" Kai asked. His eyes were no longer filled with fear, but rather with longing. There were so many emotions crashing down on him at the same time. His eyes were wet with tears. He just wanted a hug from Casey. He needed a hug from Casey.
"Casey is at school right now," April explained. "After-school hockey practice or something like that."
"He hasn't been coming over as much since ya died, dude," Mikey said. "Splinter had him banned after he wouldn't go back home for weeks. So, we don't really know what he does anymore."
