The three of us followed Melchior-san into another room, about three rooms away from the parlour we were in. Five guys were waiting for us there, I guess they must be part of the bodyguard unit?

Just like before, the four of us sat on one sofa while Melchior-san sat across us while the five guys just stood there behind Melchior-san. This setup made the air reek of intimidation.

"These guys are part of our team for Laserna. We still have two other people although they're not here with us. The Madam said she needed more guards but I think we're more than enough. That's why there's no need for us to cooperate. Rather, you guys are only going to distract us instead."

"Haah..."

With his eyebrows furrowed, that was the first thing that came out of his mouth as soon as we sat down. By 'Madam', he must be referring to Francesca-san. She did say something about how she had just gotten married not too long ago... Well to be honest I didn't mind when he said he didn't want to cooperate with us but, I don't think he had to go out of his way to show his hostility toward us...

"I don't really mind, you know?~ It's just, can you tell us the name of your team member and their face?~ So I won't accidentally cut your team member when there's something like a bandit attacking our carriage~"

"That's right. I think it's better if we do that to be careful."

"Wouldn't it be easier for you guys if you get Ren's buff magic? Well, if you don't want to, Ren will have less work to do then."

"Huh?"

The other three were thinking the same thing as me too although their remark was a little bit provocative. We all had to protect the same subject so wouldn't it be better if we cooperate? And yet, they were showing us that kind of attitude...

Perhaps they weren't expecting us to react this way. The five guys standing behind, along with Melchior-san looked surprised. I wonder what kind of reaction they were expecting from us?

"Captain. It's impossible for us to make these people angry and leave... They already accepted the quest too, so if they leave now, they will have to pay the penalty fee..."

"He's right. Isn't it better if they're coming with us so we can have more help?~"

"Ughh..."

The men behind Melchior-san were whispering to him but I could hear everything from here.

I see... So they're trying to upset us so we'd turn the quest down?

Hearing his subordinate's words, Melchior-san seemed frustrated. Well, I guess Melchior-san's pride must've hurt because Francesca-san said that she couldn't rely on her guard alone. Hence why he was annoyed at us.

"Umm... Since we're escorting the same people, I think it'd be dangerous if we don't get along. It's okay even if we're not cordial with each other but at least we should cooperate, right?"

Yeah. I don't think I'm wrong for saying that.

"Haah... To be reprimanded by a kid like you... You're right. Actually, the number of guards has decreased. We're actually happy you're here since we can ensure the Madam's safety. I'm sorry for the way I behaved earlier."

Melchior-san let out a heavy sigh before he stood up and bowed his head deeply to apologize.

"No, I'm sure it must be confusing to have a group of strangers coming with you out of the blue like today. Don't worry about it."
