"Sodus", Cemeteries

I was still in Aidan's arms when James went back with Amaury. My best friend assessed the situation with his own eyes even if James had certainly explained everything to him. "I am alright, darling," I said, trying to reassure him.

"Do you need anything?" He asked.

"Well, your presence here is already helping."

"We left several messages to Sonia and to Carlos. No answer for now."

My favorite couple established a base camp in the entrance hall of the club. We spent some time exchanging ideas on how to deal with the situation, and Anna joined us with a box full of items from her place.

"Okay," she said. "I'm going to try something, to better understand what is going on."

She started chanting but she quickly winced and took a step back. "My magic doesn't get through the barrier. I wanted to make the spell visible. Not to affect it but just to allow us to see it. But it doesn't work. I'm repelled exactly as when we are trying to physically enter the room. Maybe someone more powerful could overrule that, but I can't."

"An enchanted object could perhaps do the job," Amaury suggested.

Anna nodded and rushed to her box. "Yes, that's why I got some supplies."

She took three translucid stones. She concentrated and chanted some words while the usual threads of light fled from her fingers and wrapped over the gems. They glowed for a moment before the light dissolved in thin air and the stones returned to their original milky color.

"If you put them in three corners of the room", she explained, "they will make the spell visible."

She pushed the stones through the magical wall until I was able to grab them. Anna stood just beyond the limit, where she could see most of the main room. Aidan placed himself unconsciously near Lucas to protect him. And Stanislas stayed on the other side of the room, seated on a stool at the bar, half-hunched over his coffee mug. His gaze was less blurry than it was before, though.

I placed the stones around the room, and when I put the third one, the lines of the spell appeared on the wall and ceiling in front of me. I froze for a second, captivated by the spectacle, when my head snapped at Stanislas' loud exclamation behind me, and the sound of the coffee mug shattering on the floor.

The mirror on the wall just above his head looked like a thunderstorm with flashes of light. The old vampire walked away from it in a hurry. He then looked around, and we realized at the same time that there were several other similar phenomena all across the room. One behind the stage, one on the ceiling in the middle of the dancefloor, and one on the stairs.

"It's bad, Boss," Anna said. "You were right: it's like unstable breaches. They could annihilate the club. And if I can't do anything from the outside..."

"There are only two possibilities then. We have to manage to get out and contain the magic or find a way to restabilize the spell from the inside."

I took some duct tape and marked, on the floor or the walls, the localization of the anomalies, without lingering in these areas as they amplified the disorientation that I felt. Then I removed the stones and the lights finally disappeared.

"I will monitor the anomalies regularly to see how the situation progresses," I said.

Anna nodded. "I think at that pace we have a few hours in front of us. But that is if nothing happens to accelerate the process."

"What could?"

"Another unmastered spell would be fatal."

I sighed. "Alright. We will cross that bridge when we will get to it. Do more research and let's wait for Ikshan's call. We are going to find a solution."
