"103", The Kills
The spell blocking us inside was still on but now the situation had stabilized, we only had to wait for Lucas to regain his strength to deal with it. After what he had done earlier, it would be a piece of cake. But for now, he was exhausted and had to get some rest. He went upstairs to lie down in my office where he would be more comfortable.
My gaze wandered around the room as if to check one last time that everything was alright.
"You should reattach my chains," suggested Stanislas.
I looked at him and nodded. The least I could say was that the vampire had never ceased to surprise me along the day and I was - almost - getting used to his presence. I knew it was not the same for Aidan but, at least, his sire was not causing any more problems. I put the chains back and Stanislas did not say anything more.
I tried to relax and breathe. Suddenly, I heard Amaury's voice. "Elise, you have grey hair?"
I turned my head just in time to see James widening his eyes and slapping his husband's arm. "You just noticed now?"
Amaury looked at me confused.
"I have been dying my hair for months, darling," I said with a smile.
"You have? Oh, thank god. I thought you had gone full Rogue after the spell or something."
James and I burst into laughter. "No, darling. I am dying them progressively. Well, you can imagine why. But now you said that I may go towards the white streak look." I turned towards Aidan. "What do you think, my love? Could I rock that?"
He smiled, took my hand, lifted it up to his lips, and kissed it. "You can rock anything. But that would definitely be amazing on you."
"Silver fox. I love that," said James.
I chuckled and leaned on Aidan as he slid his arm around my waist.
Amaury was still flushed with embarrassment.
"It is alright, darling," I said. "I am not mad that you did not notice." I smiled at him and he smiled back.
"Would you have noticed on me?" James teased.
"Oh come on," Amaury sighed.
James laughed and kissed his husband fiercely.
The heavy tension we had lived in for hours dissipated slowly. It was nice to laugh and to think about something as trivial as my hair.
I called Ikshan to give our friends in Budapest some updates.
"The spell worked," I said to the three anxious faces on the screen.
"Yay! You're the best," said Zoé. "Digital high five!"
I laughed. "Thank you so much for your help. We are still stuck in the club but the magic is stable."
"How is the kid?" Ikshan asked.
"Exhausted, but he seems fine. He was incredible."
"Great news."
James gestured to me that he wanted to talk to them. Confused, I put the phone in front of him.
"Hey, on a totally unrelated topic: did you notice something different with Elise's hair lately?"
I rolled my eyes and Amaury blushed again.
"You mean the grey hair?" Leno tried cautiously.
"She's been dying her hair for months now, right?" Zoé added. "Go, silver fox!"
"Exactly," James answered, waving at Amaury who was trying desperately to hide behind the wall.
I laughed and turned the phone back to me.
"What was that about?" Ikshan asked.
"Nothing. James is being silly. As usual."
The vampire narrowed his eyes and then sent me a kiss.
"Yes, I love you too, honey," I told him. "Stop tormenting your husband. And stop talking about my hair."
