Chapter 2

Maxine's POV

"Victoria! Not now." I say while gripping the steering wheel. Victoria wanted to go to her friends house and stay the night but she's not ready.

"But mom!" She whines

"Enough Victoria.I'm not your dad, I can say no!" I press while looking at her through the review mirror.

Victoria just kept quiet, she knows not to bother it any more. I pull up to the girl's school and walked them to their classes before heading to the mall. I told Jessica I was going to meet her there so we could spent some time from everything.

I check my phone before parking and going inside the mall where Jessica was sitting on a bench with her baby-bump present.

"Baby!" I point to her stomach

"It's killing me! I don't know how you were able to push out three." Jessica sighs

"It's always like that with the first child. After the second one you'll get used to it." I say

"Well you ready to set our husband's cards on fire." Jessica jokes

"You know it." I say as we walk into a shoe store

Austin's POV

"What do you mean?" I ask my scouts

"Rogues have been on our territory and we caught scent of demons..." One of the scouts say

That's one kind I didn't want to hear: Demons. They're reckless and ruthless. Kill a whole town if they could.

"I want the entire territory guarded with every hunter, mercenary, and scout." I ordered

"Yes sir."

I grunt before turning into Blade and going out the house. I ran deep into our territory and I smelt it, demons. I go into different directions of the smell to pick two leads meaning one is where they came from, the other is where they headed. My guess is three demons; their footprints look different.

I make a turn on one of the trails before running full Sprint before I'm stopped by the interstate. The trail continues across the interstate but I can't go as Blade.

I just call it quits before running to my house. Maxine's car was parked so I guess she's back already. I'll just pick up the girls for her.

"Hey baby" Maxine says as I walk in the living room changing into human

"Hey babe. The girls give you any trouble?" I ask. I know the girls and how they are, and yes Samantha can sometimes act out.

"Victoria keeps asking about that sleepover she wants to go to at her school friend's house but I don't think she's ready." Maxine says

"I don't think she's ready for that either, they could start talking about something and Victoria brings it up." I say

"Yeah, I still want her to be a normal kid with friends and goes to school and graduate and go to college. You see how smart the girls are." Maxine says

"Yes but baby she can do everything else, just not staying over or having someone over. Just not now." I say

"Yeah I guess you're right."
Maxine says before smiling a little

I walk up to her and kiss her forehead before going upstairs and taking a hot shower. I look at myself in the mirror, I need to shave; I have a full beard now.

I take out my clippers and shave my beard to a stubble. Now I look sexy, not a lumberjack. I walk over to the closet and pick out a flannel with a pair of dark jeans. I look at the clock to see it's "1:47" almost time for the girls to get out. I go back downstairs to see Maxine sleep on the couch so I carry her upstairs to our room and set her down. She was still sleep so I give her a kiss on the cheek before I close the door and walk out to the car. Something didn't feel right, but maybe I'm just paranoid from the demon scent.
