Austin's POV
"Alpha, we picked up a demon's trail." A pack member says
"I need a hunter on that trail. Everyone else needs to follow." I command
It's been three days of searching and my pack is in despair. They couldn't have traveled that far so why can't we find them? Maxine and her group has moved out of state now and yet we can't find anything. By the end of the day we can't get a lead I'll regroup with everyone at the pack house.
"The trail is fresh." The hunter says
We follow him for an hour until we come up to this old house in the middle of fields.
"It's three. They're in there." The hunter says
"Ok. We're going to bust in there canines blazing hot. I need for some to stay outside incase they try to escape." I whisper
My group gets into formation and gives me a nod. I signal and pack members break down the door. There were three demons disguised as...humans. They were sitting there shocked. Pack members dragged them out and they tried to put up at fight but we surprised them.
"Take them back to the pack house." I order
I check around the house and find a fucking baby in the other room. I smell it and it smells human. Why does the demons have it?
The baby cries and I change back. I wrap it in its blanket and try to comfort it. Who's baby is this?
The baby is tan with bright green eyes. It's a boy. He was no older than five months and I could tell it was hungry because it's ribs were starting to show.
I take my phone out the bag and call Maxine as I exit the house.
"Hey" Maxine answers
"Hey. Meet us back at the pack house. We caught demons and I found a baby..." I trail off
"Yeah we caught five. And we're on our way. Wait...did you say a baby?" Maxine asks
"Yes. I don't know what to do." I say as I walk through the forest
"Bring him or her home and we'll figure out what to do." Maxine says
"Ok. I'll see you. I love you." I say
"I love you to." Maxine says
We hang up the phone and I look down at the baby. How do I carry it home?
I know there's a nearby town...I'll just pick up baby food and figure out a way from there.
I sprint with him in my arms until a store came in view. I walk in and immediately receive weird looks.
"What if you just rent a car. It's a three day trip." Blade suggests
"That's not a bad idea. I'll just pick up some stuff to hold it over until we get home." I say to Blade
I go straight to the baby section and get some baby supplies. I'm glad I know about baby stuff or else it'll be over. I pay for the stuff and walk an hour until I come up to a car rental place. It was already night time and I don't want the baby out in cold air.
"Sir I'm sorry but we're about to close." A woman who works here says
"I just need a small car to rent for four days." I state
"Since you have a child I'll accept. I have the perfect fit. It's safe for the baby too." She says with a smile
After thirty minutes I got the car and situated the baby into the car. I drive to a grocery store and take him to the bathroom. I give him a quick wash up with a baby rag I bought and fix him a bottle. I snuggle into the backseat and feed him which he took without hesitation.
"I better be able to keep you after all this." I say
He looks at me with green eyes.
"I'm going to call you Joe for now because you look like a Joe." I say
He just continues to stare at me as he finishes his bottle.
I lean him over my arm and burp him. After a while he didn't move and he was fast asleep. I set him down in the carrier and crawl out to the drivers side. I pull out the parking lot and onto the highway. I hope my group gets back safely and I can get "Joe" to my home ok.
I've been driving all day and I had to stop five times to change Joe or give him a bottle. He's been keeping me company by staring at me the whole time. He reminds me of the kids when they would just gawk at me when they were babies.
"We're halfway home and you can meet my kids and my wife. She'll love you." I say to Joe who just continues to stare at me.
After driving for three days I finally pulled into my lands. I drive past my pack house to my house. Maxine walks out with the kids who were jumping excitedly.
Maxine walks up to me and kisses me hungrily before going in the backseat and taking out Joe.
"So this is the baby? He's pretty." He snuggles his nose and he giggles
"I call him Joe." I state
Maxine giggles as the carries him inside. I take the small stuff I bought for him and walk up to the kids who I pick up all at the same time.
"I miss you rascals." I say as I feel my heart swell
"Do we have a new brother now?" Sam asks
"For the time being, yes." I say
"But what about me?" Xavier asks
"You're being sent off." Victoria says
Xavier starts crying.
"You're not being sent off. You'll just have another little brother." I say
Xavier sniffles and we walk in the house. I still hold onto the kids as we watch tv. Soon Maxine comes down with a fresh Joe in her arms. She sits beside us on the couch and the kids immediately surround them.
"I'm going to go get the crib from the attic." I say and get up
No one said anything because Joe had their attention. I walk up to the attic and get Xavier's old crib and set it up in my room. I walk to the bathroom and take a much needed shower. I come out to see Joe in his crib and Maxine on the bed. I join her and pull her in my arms.
"Austin I need to tell you something." She says
"What is it baby?" I ask
"I'm really pregnant."
