~Videl~
The next morning, Videl was torn between the idea of talking to Sienna or accessing the digital diary to find out what really happened between the real Videl and Lars at that party. The nightmare kept slithering around in her mind, making her shudder. Lars allegedly told Kane that she'd smashed a beer can in his face for telling her a vulgar joke. Surely, the Videl of the past must have told her best friend something far worse than that, if Sienna shared the intense hatred for Lars and Kane.
Videl wished that she could leave her past behind her, and have her own life. But the way Lars had basically pinned her against the shelf in Grocery, spitting in her face . . . No, she knew that she had to find out the truth, whether she wanted to or not. Anxiety bubbled in her chest as she thumbed her wristband and opened her holo-menu. Her fingers tapped the translucent keyboard that floated in front of her to message Sienna.
[Can you come over when you're not busy?]
[I have to talk to you - it's really important. ]
It was only seconds after she tapped "send" when she saw that Sienna was typing something back. Ding!
[I'll be right there!!]
Videl swallowed hard and went to stand by the door. Sienna was one of the only two names on her door panel's Welcome List that had permanent authorization to enter. The other was someone named R. Lang, which of course, Videl had no recollection of, but she assumed that it was the Risa in her contacts. It was a question for another day. There were two other names below them that, at one time, had permanent authorization, but the names were grayed out.
H. Terra and E. Terra, Videl's parents.
A beeping sound alerted Videl before the door slid open, and Sienna walked in. Her blonde curls were swept back in a messy ponytail, and she was still in her pajamas, complete with bunny slippers. She must have just woken up and rushed over, but she didn't look annoyed - only concerned. The door slid shut behind her with a clink of the lock. Before Sienna had time to ask what she'd needed to talk to her about, Videl was quick to say,
"Do you want some coffee?"
Videl busied herself pulling out two mugs from the cabinet and placing them under the automatic dispenser, well aware of Sienna's bright green eyes following her every movement. Videl pressed the brew button and joined Sienna in the miniature dining area that resembled a child's dollhouse furnishings, compared to Kane's ritzy kitchen. The sound of the liquid drizzling into the mugs, and the smell of the aromatic, powdered coffee brewing was a comfort to Videl as she sat down in the chair opposite Sienna.
"What did you want to talk about, V?" Sienna asked, reaching across the little table to clasp her hand.
Videl bit her lip, and forced back the burn of tears stinging her eyes. She cleared her throat and spoke, wincing at the shakiness of her voice.
"When did I start hating Lars and Kane?"
Sienna flinched at the question. "Um, well," Sienna's forehead creased as she thought about it. "It's been almost three years. Why?"
