Jennie woke up to the sound of thunder, seconds later she saw rain through her window. She looked at the clock next to the TV, 3:02am. Last time she heard from Lisa was around 8:00pm, letting her know that her meeting was running late. Jennie sighted frustrated and got up from her comfortable couch, picking up the empty glass of water she had a few hours ago.
After heading towards the kitchen, she walked to the dining room and started cleaning up the table. Jennie picked up both plates; one of them still had food on it, that plate was supposed to be for Lisa.
Jennie got a phone call from Lisa that day at 5:30pm telling her she would make it home for dinner, she had to finish a meeting with an investor. At 6:30, Jennie got all the food on the plates and waited for Lisa, 6:30 was the time they always had dinner. 7:00pm came, but Lisa was not home yet. Jennie started eating once she received a text from Lisa stating, "Almost done babe".
Jennie knew Lisa was not going to make it for dinner that is why she decided to eat alone, once again. There had been a few weeks now that Lisa would not make it home on time due to her busy schedule at work. Jennie understood that, she knew there were times that Lisa had to stay late hours at work now that her company was at peak. But today was supposed to be different, today was their third year anniversary and Jennie had prepared Lisa's favorite food for dinner.
Jennie felt a tear fall down her eye, but wipe it right away and continued cleaning up the table and getting the dishes into the dishwasher. By the time Jennie finished with the dishes and cleaning the rest of the kitchen, she hard the door open and heard it slammed shut followed by an "Oops" coming from Lisa.
Jennie walked out of the kitchen towards the living room and saw Lisa dropping her keys onto the ground as she attempted to hang them on the key holder. Lisa then turned around a saw Jennie with her arms crossed looking at her. Lisa knew she was in trouble by the look on Jennie's face. Jennie not only looked pissed like she could kill someone, but she also look hurt as she saw Lisa a bit drunk.
Lisa could do two things, apologize for being late, or apologize for forgetting their anniversary, which at that moment, Lisa did not remember.
"Hi babe, sorry I took forever, the meeting ran for so long. But hey, we got the deal" Lisa approached Jennie and attempted to kiss her on the lips, but Jennie moved her face getting a kiss on the cheek instead. Lisa looked at her and frowned her eyebrows.
"I'm sorry babe, I said I was going to make it home for dinner, but Rosé was in town and wanted to go have dinner, I couldn't say no to her, I was still working of getting the deal done"
"So, you rather have dinner with some 'Investor' of yours, rather than coming home Lisa. Do you even remember what day is today?" Jennie looked at Lisa who looked confused at the question she asked her.
"Yeah...it's Friday..."
Jennie looked at her angry and hurt for a few seconds "You're fucking unbelievable Lalisa" Jennie said nothing less and headed upstairs towards their bedroom. Jennie was not only crying due to the fact that Lisa forgot about their anniversary, Jennie was also crying when she noticed a small red faded mark on the side of Lisa's neck.
Jennie got inside the room and locked the door. She leaned behind the door and felt her tears rolled down her eyes. She knew exactly what she saw when she looked at Lisa's neck. it was lipstick stain. Lisa had been coming home late for the last month now. Jennie knew she had so much work, but now things were starting to make sense. Lisa had met this 'Rosé' a few months ago and told Jennie she wanted to expand her company in South Korea and Thailand.
Jennie did not know what to do; she had never felt so this hurt before. She felt numb; she didn't what to feel or how to react. Part of her wanted to go and slap the living shit out of Lisa for doing that to her. She had not done anything but give her all. Jennie was always there for Lisa; she loved her unconditionally, cared for her, and always put Lisa's needs first.
The other part of Jennie just wanted to not do anything, because her what she suspected has just being confirmed.
A couple weeks ago Jennie was cleaning up the table after having breakfast with Lisa. Jennie heard a phone ring coming from Lisa's office and noticed Lisa forgot her work phone. By the time she picked up the phone to see who it was, she saw a missed called from an unknown phone number. As she placed the phone down she heard a sound from an incoming text. Her heart dropped when she read, "It was nice getting drinks with you last night. Let's do this again ;)" the text was from the same unknown number. Jennie knew the previous night Lisa came home late from work due to a meeting she had with her team.
As more tears rolled down Jennie's eyes, she confirmed that Lisa was cheating on her. The question was with who? Was it one of her assistants? Was it Rosé? All those questions were in Jennie's head. Her breathing started getting shorter and quicker, she was having a packing attack. She didn't know what to do; she hadn't felt like this before. Jennie ran to their bathroom and the only thing she could do was throw up the dinner she just had a few hours ago.
A couple minutes after, she brushed her teeth and poured water on her face to calm herself. She looked herself in the mirror and her face was pale. What was she going to do? Was she going to confront Lisa, or was she just going to let it go? Jennie thought to herself that it was pointless confronting her; there was no point, especially after what she found out a month ago.
