Chapter Ten

Jennie's POV

I didn't know what to say after hearing those words. I simply just looked at her in disbelief.

"What are you talking about? Henry is not your son, he's my son"

"Who is the father then?"

"That is none of your business. That is my business only ok"

"What are you not telling me Jennie? It's obvious that you're hiding something"

"I'm not hiding anything ok. Henry is my son, I got pregnant long after I left"

"How old is he?"

"He's about to be four"

"You left almost five years ago"

"That's exactly my point Lisa, I got pregnant in New Zealand. I met this guy and got pregnant"

"Clearly he's not in the picture anymore right?"

"No... that's not true, of... of course he is. He's just, he has some work and had to stay back"

"I don't believe you, there's no way that he has my eyes and my nose. He is my son isn't he?"

"No he's not Lisa! Please just leave or I'll call security" I picked up the phone, I didn't know what else to do. I started getting an anxiety attack once again. I didn't want her to see me like this. "Just leave"

"Just know, that this is not over. I'm gonna find out if he's my son or not. I know he is" I watched her leave and felt like my heart was gonna burst out of my chest because of how fast it was beating. I sat down trying to calm down and I couldn't help remember when I found out I was pregnant.

I was finishing getting some of my school work done when I got a call from an unknown number.

"Hello?"

"Hi, this is Jasmine calling from the fertility institute, may I speak with Jennie Manobal-Kim?"

"Yeah, this is she"

"Hi Jennie, we have great news for you. We got your lab results and the procedure was a success. You are 6 weeks pregnant. Congratulations to you and your wife!"

"Wow... thank you" I couldn't pay attention to the rest of the instructions that she told me. All I could hear was those words. I was pregnant, finally after months of trying. It was a miracle, a small miracle mine and Lisa's. A small miracle not knowing that it would become the most important thing for me.

Lisa and I decided that we wanted to start a family. We decided that the first round I was going to have the baby with my own egg. We tried multiple times, but for some reason it wasn't working. There were long waiting periods were the procedure failed and we had to keep on trying the following month. It was so frustration and I felt defeated every time I took a pregnancy test and it said negative. I felt useless; I couldn't even carry a child. Every time I read "not pregnant" on the test I lost hope. I knew Lisa was losing hope as well and it was disappointing.

We then decided to do reciprocal IVF and I would carry Lisa's egg. We decided to give it a show and see if that worked. The day of the procedure, Lisa couldn't make it due to an important appointment at work, so I decided to go on my own. After all, there was a possibility that the procedure wouldn't be successful so I don't want to get her hopes up again.
