Lisa left Jennie's place a quickly as she could, still wiping the tears that were rolling down her cheeks. She was sad and angry at the same time. She was angry at Jennie for trying to keep her away from her son. She was also angry at herself to fucking things up with Jennie where there were just staring to work out.
Lisa got in her Uber and as soon as she got inside the car, she dialed a familiar number she knew. She waited a few seconds until they picked up on the other line.
"Hey... I need to see you"
"Everything ok? I just need to take care of something's but we can meet after that. Where do you wanna meet?"
"At my place..."
"Ok, I'll see you in a little bit..."
Lisa hung up the phone and tried to calm down. She needed to work things out with Jennie. She didn't want to fight with her and not see her son. Lisa didn't want to get the court involved because she knew that when the court got involve when it comes to child custody, someone always ends up losing. She knew that first hand because she had to deal with her parents getting divorced just when she was nine years old.
Lisa got to her penthouse building and got on the elevator. She left her keys on their respective place and took her heels off to get more comfortable. She walked to the kitchen where she opened the fridge and got a cold bottle of red wine. After pouring herself a glass of wine, she headed towards the living room, or course, taking the bottle of wine because she knew one single glass of wine wasn't going to be enough.
Lisa was about to finish her second glass of wine when se heard the doorbell. She got up to open the door, where the blonde girl greeted her.
Lisa and Roseanne had their fun times few years ago. They both realized that they were better off being friends than something else. Especially after Lisa set her boundaries straight with Roseanne once she found out Jennie came back to New York.
Lisa told Roseanne that she wanted to get Jennie back, which Roseanne understood without a doubt. Neither of them had feelings for one another, other than a physical attraction.
"What happened? Why the long face? You still haven't been able to speak to Jennie?" The blonde girl said taking a seat on the couch while Lisa poured her a glass of wine.
"I wish it were just that Rosie... She wants to take my son away from me?"
"What do you mean by that? Why?"
"I wish I knew why. I know she's still upset over the other day when she saw us together in my office" Lisa said running her hand through her hair frustrated.
"Bu there was nothing going on between us that day, we were just talking. Nothing has happened between us in years now."
"I know, but try to convince her... I know how Jennie is"
"What are you going to do about Henry? Remember that you have great lawyers and so do I. My dad is good friends with one of the family court judges."
Lisa sighted once again, not knowing what to do.
"I know Rosie, but I don't want to fight with Jennie. I want things to be okay between us. I don't want to have to get the court involve, especially knowing what happens. I don't want Henry to go through what I went through when my parents got divorce."
"I know that Lisa, but its also not fair to you. Its not fair that you get to know him, spend time with him and just take him away from you. It's not fair to you nor him."
"I know it's no fair Rosie" Lisa took a deep breath trying to calm down. "But what am I supposed to do? I don't want to taking him away from her, I just want to see him more often, just like I used to before all this happened. Seeing him every other weekend is not fair. If I just let things be, I will only see him four times a month. That means I will only see him 48 days out of the year."
"That is why you need to get your lawyers involved Lisa. They will be in charge of handling all that and will make things right so they can be fair for the both of you."
Lisa got quiet thinking on what Roseanne told her, Lisa knew she was right. It wasn't fair that Jennie was doing this. If she doesn't do anything, Jennie was going to end up taking her son away from her.
Lisa and Roseanne caught up for a bit and talked about some work projects until Roseanne left.
Lisa did not sleep at all that night; she wouldn't stop thinking on what she needed to do. She knew she needed to talk to Jennie and try to come up with an agreement. But it was easier said than done, Lisa knew Jennie very well and she knew Jennie wasn't going to agree on what Lisa wanted. Especially when Jennie would evade her and refused to talk to her. What if you just let things be and enjoy the little time you have with your son. What if you can your lawyer tomorrow and start the court process to and fight for your parental rights. What if...
Lisa played the what if game for some time. Many ideas ran through her mind, some of them she knew would not ever happened.
Few weeks passed by where Lisa attempted to speak to Jennie, but as always Jennie told her she was busy or didn't have time. Lisa didn't want to argue with her but her anger was getting the best of her.
Lisa decided to leave things alone, at least for now knowing that her son's birthday was in a week.
Friday night after work, Lisa went to Jennie's place and knocked on the door. Few seconds later she was greeted by the brunette girl.
"Hi, here's Henry's backpack" Jennie gave her his backpack. Usually Jennie would ask Lisa is she wanted to come in and would give her Henry's backpack inside. This time she didn't even ask her if she wanted to come in.
"Thanks... " Lisa heard laughing from inside the apartment. She tried to take a peek so see Jennie's guest. "You have visitors?"
"Yeah, Jisoo and her husband came over... Remember that Henry's birthday is next Saturday"
"Yeah, I know, what do you need me to help you with?"
"It's not necessary, I've got everything..."
"Jennie, were supposed to co-parent, we should plan Our son's birthday together" Jennie sighted getting a bit irritated.
"Fine, you can pick up the cake; I'll send you the address later. Henry mommy Lisa is here"
Lisa waited a few minutes until she was attack by a small pair of arms hugging one of her legs. Lisa picked the little one up and kissed him all over his small face, making the little one laugh.
"Ready to go honey?" The little one nodded yes with his head.
"Are you going to say bye to me?" Jennie got close to Henry smiling at him. Henry gave her a big hug and a kiss. "I'll see you in a few days ok"
Jennie said bye to Henry one more time and then saw them leave. She was still not used to not spending some weekends away from him, but that was the price she needed to pay when she decided to let Lisa come into Henry's life.
The week went by quick and Saturday finally came. Jennie barely got any sleep the night before making sure everything was ready. Jennie wanted to make that day special for Henry.
Jennie got up once her alarm went off. She walked into Henry's room, which he was still sleeping. She got closed to him and gave him a gently kiss on the forehead and watched him sleep. Who would've though you're already four years old. It was just yesterday when you were born. Jennie said to her self as she watched Henry sleep. Jennie noticed that each day that passed by, Henry was looking more like Lisa.
Jennie spent the morning running around, making sure everything was set and nothing was missing. Jennie dropped Henry off at Jisoo's place and headed to Dave and Busters. Jennie wanted to throw Henry's birthday party at Chuck-e-Cheese, but the place was booked already for that day.
Jennie got to the place, which was decorated with Paw Patrol just like Henry had asked. Jennie knew that once Henry saw all this, he would be surprised.
It was three o'clock and everyone started getting there, including Henry, Jisoo, her baby, and her husband. Just like Jennie thought, Henry was mesmerized when he saw all the decorations.
Henry went to go play with a few of his friends from daycare when they got there.
Jennie looked at the time; it was 3:30pm and still no signs on Lisa. Jennie was furious that Lisa was late and she wasn't answering her phone calls.
"She still not answering the phone"
"Be patient Jen, she's probably on her way already" Jisso tried to get Jennie to calm down. "Don't stress about it, today is an important day, it's Henry's birthday"
"Especially because today is important is because I'm stressing out Unnie. I want everything to be perfect."
"Things are going great Jen... Look, Lisa is here" Jisoo said pointing at the front door.
"Finally you get here; you were supposed to be here an hour ago. I called you so many times."
"I'm sorry, I don't know where I left my cellphone, I think I left it at home"
Lisa was a complete chaos that morning; she woke up late because her alarm didn't go off. She then got to the bakery and noticed Henry's name was spelled wrong. She then told one of the bakers if they didn't fix their mistakes, someone was going to get fired. Finally after what felt like forever, Lisa got Henry's cake and headed to Dave and Busters.
But of course, the taxi driver took her to the wrong Dave and Busters. Lisa was about to lose her mind knowing that she was already late. Finally she got to the right location and walked into the place as fast as she could.
"Where's Henry?" Lisa asked Jennie after placing the cake next to the gift table.
"He's playing some of the arcade games"
"Hi Lalisa..." Jisoo said a bit annoyed
"Jisoo, long time no see, is that your baby?"
"Yeah..." Jisoo said still annoyed. Jisoo wanted to yell at her for everything she made Jennie go through, but she knew it wasn't the correct time and occasion.
"Well, I'm going to spend some time with my son" Lisa said leaving, knowing that the tension was beginning to build up.
"Does she know?" Jisoo asked Jennie once Lisa left. Jennie shook her head, which Jisso couldn't help smiling and looking her in disbelief. "You're horrible you know that? You rather have her find out on her own then telling her?"
"It's only fair Unnie, after what she did to me; it's the least that she deserves." Jennie said smiling.
Lisa looked for Henry for a bit; there were a bunch of little boys and girls running around the place. Lisa saw the little boy from afar; he was smiling and playing around with some of his friends. Lisa smiled and started walking towards his direction. But her smiled faded awayand she felt like someone threw her a bucket of cold water when she witnessedthe following.
Henry ran towards that guy. That guy came back invading Lisa and her familyonce again. Not only Lisa was not able to see Henry as often as before. Now ontop of that she had to deal with him. Especially today, today that was supposedto be a special day. She had to sharethat day with him.
With Mark.
