CHAPTER FORTY-ONE . . .
. . . The "Surprise" Surprise!

"Where is that idiot?"

Utahime curses his name, fury in her glare as eyes narrow to the door entrance. Today was an important event, one rare and unexpected. Students from Kyoto and Jujutsu High came together to congrat Yaga on his official promotion to principal after close training with the current and now former principal, Gakuganji. The staff and a few of the students gathered to eat dinner in a private room within the restaurant.

Shoko sat next to Utahime, the other spot- or spots, empty. Nanami and Kiyotaka Ijichi were across from them, Ijichi directly in front of her. Yaga-Sensei and Gakuganji were further to the end of the table, Gakuganji sitting at the end.

The brunette shrugged her shoulders and pulled out her cellphone, sliding her cigarette to the other side of her mouth. She checked to see if he replied:

Dumb

Shoko
Where are you?
You're Late.

Dumb
Okie Dokie 👍
In front 😁✌️

Shoko
You're dumb.

Dumb
☹️

He sent that 10 minutes ago:

Shoko
helllo
?

With Utahime ranting on how reckless Gojo is, Ijichi and Nanami conversing, Shoko spaced out quietly, eyes boring through her phone once she exited their chat to her contact list. There near the bottom of her contacts were two people people whose fates always seemed to intertwine.

One got away, the other followed.

One falls, the other spirals.

Suguru Geto and Miran Fushiguro

Shoko stares at the profile photo of the girl (the pic above). It was Miran's surprise birthday, in the photo she was smiling brightly.

It's funny how you brightened up a room

Miran was a light, one that shined to everyone in Jujutsu High. She worked so hard yet smiled as if it was nothing. There were times she would be so exhausted, she'd sleep in the classroom during break periods. Her light never diminished, energy never faltered as it reflected back to everyone she knew.

Maybe that's why those idiots like you

You were a breath of fresh air

... Maybe that's why Geto went and left, that idiot

Miran has the tendency to take care of people, anyone she sees she'll swoop them under their wing. It was her habit. Regardless of their personal backgrounds, Geto and Gojo were the duo she watched over, whether it was scolding them or having a light-hearted conversation. She was always there with a light smile creasing her lips.

Maybe it was because of the way she grew up, having to take care of two kids alone, to grow up fast for the sake of them, hide and secure them- Just to protect them from the heartlessness of the Jujutsu world...
