CHAPTER FOUR . . .
. . . EMI'S SURPRISE !"Let's get married," the first words under his breath. Toji sat on the couch, looking up at Emi as she furrowed her brows. He knew it was asking too much, they'd only been together for nearly three years, but this was the only right thing to do.
It was May, the middle of spring, and eleven-year-old Miran became ill due to the seasonal flu, ordered to bed rest by Emi. The flu wasn't the only thing that weakened her system, it was also the constant training Toji had with her.
His hands twitched, staring at the void of Emi's Stomach, more so, her womb. She was carrying. Carrying his child. It overwhelmed him at the thought...
A child.
Just a few minutes ago Emi walked into the house and dropped the tests in front of him, her face holding no expression, just anxiety.
He felt it too. He didn't know how to be a dad, he was never around to teach him how, and quite frankly, he was a lousy one. Would he be one too, a failure of a father? Emi looked away, the question made her tense up even more, her eyes filled with sadness.
"Toji, we can't marry because I'm pregnant," she whispered, loud enough for him to hear. He understood the memo that she was being silent since Miran was still in the house, Emi didn't want her to listen in.
Toji leaned back, his back hitting the couch cushion, "Why not?" Emi let out a few stutters, trying to find a logical conclusion.
She couldn't.
She sat down next to him, her eyes still not meeting his, "I- I don't know. I just never imagined getting married at all."
Emi Fushiguro didn't know what to do, she had a stable job as a florist. Her sister is healthy and living in a safe environment. What would change if she were to marry Toji? In the middle of her thought, Toji touched her cheek to gain her attention.
"We don't need a party. Just us and the papers," he stated. In truth, he didn't want a reception, just him and her together. Emi fidgeted her fingers before finally looking up to meet his green eyes, "What about Miran?"
Toji's thoughts ran to the eleven-year-old girl, who had now known her for at least three years. He would never say the truth about the alternation of his intentions for her. He was getting attached to her, and it ate him up a little, knowing he signed her warrant to the Jujutsu Universe. He keeps telling himself over and over, that it was the only way. All the guilt went away.
"I'll sign guardianship papers, so we'll both be under her name," Toji kept his hand on Emi's cheek.
Her hazel eyes lit up, "Really?"
He gave a small nod, and she let out a relieved sigh. Emi unexpectedly hugged him, catching him off guard, "Toji, thank you for staying." She feared he would leave them like many men do. She wanted their child to be raised by both of them, not just one of them. She needs him, and she hopes he needs her too.
