Y/n stood in her room, wearing her headphones as she danced and sang around passionately. This was her sanctuary, the place where she could let her voice soar and her dreams take flight. From the moment she was little, she had always known that she wanted to be a singer, a vocalist who could touch people's hearts with her music.
Lost in the rhythm of the song playing in her ears, Y/n twirled and belted out the lyrics with all her might. She closed her eyes, imagining herself on a grand stage, lights shining down on her as she captivated a mesmerized audience. In that moment, she felt invincible, as if nothing could stand in the way of her dreams. She had a beautiful voice that deserved to be heard.
"Black Hole In My Mind" by The Lillingtons. The music was so loud that she couldn't hear the real world outside. Maybe it was on purpouse.
But just as the music reached its peak, the door to her room swung open, and Y/n's heart skipped a beat. She quickly turned off her music, her cheeks flushed with a mix of embarrassment and fear, as she takes off her headphones.
It was her mother, standing in the doorway with a stern expression on her face <<Y/n, what on earth do you think you're doing?>> her mother scolded, her voice sharp and disapproving <<You're being way too loud. Can't you be more considerate?>>.
Y/n's shoulders slumped, and she bit her lip, feeling a wave of disappointment wash over her. She had been so lost in the moment, so consumed by her passion, that she hadn't even noticed how her voice had carried beyond the walls of her room.
<<I'm sorry, mom>> Y/n muttered, her voice barely a whisper <<I didn't realize it was that loud.>>.
Her mother sighed and walked further into the room, her expression softening. She sat down on the edge of Y/n's bed and patted the empty space next to her, signaling for Y/n to join her <<I know you love singing, but have you ever considered that maybe it's not the most practical career choice? Being a singer is incredibly challenging, and success is never guaranteed.>>.
Y/n's heart sank, the weight of her mother's words crushing her dreams even further. She had always hoped that her mother would support her aspirations, but it seemed that she had other plans in mind.
She sat next to her << Mom, this is what I've always wanted.>> Y/n replied, her voice filled with a mix of determination and sadness <<Singing brings me so much joy, and I can't imagine doing anything else.>>.
Her mother sighed and looked at Y/n with a blend of concern and frustration <<I know it, Y/n.>> her mother said, her voice tinged with resignation. <<But I worry about your future. Being a lawyer, for example, would provide stability and security. It's a more practical choice.>>.
Y/n felt her heart sink even further. She had always felt pressure to pursue a more conventional career, but the thought of giving up on her dreams made her chest tighten with despair.
Y/n shrugged <<I am not sure if I want to do it, actually.>>.
The woman stroked her arm <<Y/n you are the first of your class, you got all A's in every subject, why don't you try? You would make us proud.>> she spoke. And with we she meant her mother and her dad, who passed away three years ago. This death was caused by a cancer who couldn't be cured anymore. Since that day, Y/n put herself more and more in the study to make her mother proud. And maybe her father too.
<<Being a singer is not an easy path. It requires hard work, dedication, and a lot of sacrifices.>> the mother spoke <<And if you fail? You don't have anything. But if you become a lawyer, you'll never fail. I assure you.>>.
Y/n nodded, her eyes looking down at her feet. She had heard those words before, from her mother, over and over again. But it still hurt to hear them again, as if they were a confirmation of her fears.
Her mother reached out and gently squeezed Y/n's hand, offering her comfort <<Trust me, with your intelligence, you can do anything. Try to be a lawyer, you'll love it. I know you.>> her mother said softly.
Y/n sighed and nodded. She did not wanted to disapprove her in any way. She was the only child and there were just the two of them here <<Okay.>> he said quietly.
When she muttered her answer back, her mother smiled warmly, her eyes filled with pride <<That's my girl.>> she said, pulling Y/n into a tight embrace <<You'll never disappoint me. I'll always be here to support you, every step.>>.
<<Thanks mom.>> she said, nodding as she smiled a bit. It was forced. Her mother stood up while smiling <<I'll be going now. See you later hm?>>.
She nodded <<Yes mom, love you.>>.
The woman smiled <<Love you more.>> and with that, she exited the room.Y/n let out a deep sigh and layed down on the bed, closing her eyes, thinking about that conversation again. It was always the same.
She wanted to be a singer.
Her mother wanted her to be a lawyer.
Y/n always respected her mother, never did anything wrong to her. She was the perfect child to her.
As she was thinking of leaving her passion, her phone buzzed more times.
Without opening her eyes, she answered the phone.
<<Hello?>> she said.
On the other line of the phone, a cheerful voice spoke <<Hey girl, you're free tonight?>> it was Lily, her best friend since middle school. Lily was the classic fashion girl who would never go out without a perfect outfit. But she was the sweetest and, at the same time, badass of all her friends.
<<Hm, my mom's out. What's up?>> Y/n asked. Mia sighed <<Haven't you read the messages? We wanted to play tonight, are you free?>>.
Secretely, Y/n and Lily had a band with two other people: Lucas and Marianne.
Lucas was Lily's boyfriend, the so considerated cool guy who's always around his girlfriend. Even if girls try to approach him in more than a friendly way, he would make it clear he had a girlfriend. He was so loyal to her. Anyway he knew how to play the drums really well. He was like fire in the music.
Marianne, meanwhile, was the shy girl in the friendgroup, usually the one reading books. But if you knew her more, she would talk no stop. She was the bassist of the group.
Lily was the guitarist. Her sister teached her to play and now she loves it. She started with the classic guitar then she passed go the eletric guitar.
There was Y/n, the main vocalist of the group. She'd usually not play any instrument (rarely she would play the piano), she's has an amazing voice. She could sing any kind of songs: pop, jazz, rock, punk. In fact, she was the leader.
Y/n's heart started beating faster again. She loved music with all her heart. She would do anything to play with her band. The Harmonizers.
<<Always for the band.>> Y/n replied, she sat on the bed.
<<Awesome, see you at my house in 15 minutes with the others.>> and with that, Lily hanged up.
