Chapter 18: The Beginning

The Karasuno volleyball team continued their intense match, and usually, every now and then Aeris joined them in practice and play.

Aeris, alongside Tobo, Daichi, Ennoshita, Yamaguchi, and Tsukishima, formed one formidable side, while the other side consisted of Hinata, Sugawara, Nishinoya, Tanaka, Asahi, and Narita. The air was filled with the sound of quick rallies, powerful spikes, and skillful receives.

Every player gave their all, each touch of the ball met with determination and precision. Aeris, with her powerful outside hitting, was a force to be reckoned with. Her spikes were like thunder, and her receives were as smooth as silk.

The competition was fierce, but it was all in good fun. Sweat glistened on their foreheads, and the gym echoed with their laughter and shouts. They pushed each other to their limits, with Hinata's lightning-fast movements and Tsukishima's towering blocks, they were all on top of their game.

When the final point was scored, and the game came to an end, there were smiles all around. 

"Alright, guys, that's a break!" she called out, a small grin playing on her lips. It had been a solid month since she'd stepped into the role of the team's temporary coach, and boy, had they come a long way. She could see it in their plays, their coordination, and most importantly, their determination.

He glanced around to ensure their conversation would be private.

"He's here," Takeda-sensei said in a hushed tone, referring to the potential new coach they had been searching for.

Aeris nodded, understanding the significance of the moment. The team had been on the lookout for a permanent coach to replace her, as she had only agreed to help temporarily.

She was curious to meet this potential new addition to the coaching staff and see if they could continue the progress she had initiated.

"Lead the way," Aeris replied, following Kiyoko to where the new coach awaited

Takeda-sensei led Aeris to a man who stood near the entrance of the gym. He was of average height, with unruly dark hair and an easygoing demeanor that seemed almost out of place in a room filled with intense, aspiring volleyball players.

"This is Coach Ukai. He will be the coach of Karasuno," Takeda-sensei announced, a note of finality in his voice.

Coach Ukai, however, seemed taken aback. He scratched the back of his head and glanced at Aeris, his expression a mix of surprise and mild irritation. "What? No! You told me to come here to see them."

Aeris couldn't help but smile. It was a strange sense of déjà vu. Here she was, standing in the same spot she had been a weeks ago when she had first met the Karasuno team. It felt like a lifetime had passed since then, with all the sweat, tears, and laughter they had shared.

"Hmmm, I swear you won't regret it," she said with a knowing glint in her eyes. She had seen the potential in these players, and she knew that with the right guidance, they could soar to new heights.

Coach Ukai looked at the team, who were now starting to realize the gravity of the situation. Their expressions ranged from confusion to curiosity, and a few of them exchanged uncertain glances.

"I hope you won't mind if I bring some old friends," Coach Ukai said, looking towards Aeris.

Aeris grinned. "Sure, the more, the merrier."

As if on cue, a group of individuals, also known Karasuno Neighboorhood Association, entered the gym. Coach Ukai stepped forward to greet them, and soon, the gym was filled with the sounds of laughter and chatter.

It was a reunion of sorts, a merging of old and new, and Aeris couldn't wait to see how this blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm would shape Karasuno's future.

Aeris gathered the Karasuno team together. She could feel a mix of excitement and nervousness in the air, knowing that this practice match was an opportunity to put all their hard work to the test. With a reassuring smile, she spoke to them.

"Nanachan, that's them" Tanaka said, Aeris told them yesterday that there will be a practice match.

"Alright, everyone, remember what we've been practicing. Stick to your strategy, trust in each other, and most importantly, have fun out there. This is a chance for us to learn and grow. So, let's make the most of it."

The team nodded, determination in their eyes. They were ready to face their opponents, armed with their improved skills and newfound teamwork. As they walked onto the court, Aeris couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in how far they had come under her guidance.

Aeris raised an eyebrow at Hinata's unusual behavior. "What the heck are you doing there?" she asked, genuinely puzzled.

Hinata turned to her, eyes wide with excitement. "Asahi-san is here!" he exclaimed.

Aeris blinked in surprise. Asahi Azumane, the former ace of the Karasuno volleyball team, was here? She hadn't expected that. It was clear that Hinata held Asahi in high regard, and his presence had made quite an impact.

"Really?" Aeris replied, trying to match Hinata's enthusiasm. "Well, that's something. Let's go say hi then!" She gestured for Hinata to follow her as they made their way to greet Asahi, a surprise guest who might just add an unexpected twist to their practice match.
