Chapter 36: Karasuno Girls' Volleyball Club

Class had ended, and Ryu and Aeris went to the gym. Aeris wished the boys good luck and then headed back to the classroom to help her classmates with cleaning duty. Since Reiko had covered for her last week, it was her turn now.

Her task was to dispose of the garbage. After she finished segregating the trash, she noticed the Karasuno Girls' Volleyball Team.

'That must be the Karasuno Girls' Volleyball Team. Why are they here early?' Aeris thought.

Curious, she peeked through the door to see them. The girls' team seemed sad and disappointed.

'I wonder if they lost a game?' Aeris pondered.

"Why don't you come inside?" a guy said from behind her.

"Fuck!" Aeris exclaimed, jumping in surprise.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you," the guy said.

"It's fine. Did I say it out loud?" Aeris asked, feeling embarrassed.

"I don't know what you meant. Come on, don't be shy, first year," the guy said and gently dragged Aeris inside.

She had no choice but to follow him.

"Yo, Michimiya, you have a visitor," the guy called out, then looked at Aeris. "What year are you?"

"2nd year," Aeris replied.

"Ohh, a kohai," the guy said with a teasing tone.

He left, leaving Aeris and the girl standing there awkwardly.

"Kageyama Aeris," Aeris introduced herself, feeling a tad embarrassed.

"Yes, how may I help you?" Michimiya asked, her tone polite. Aeris hesitated for a moment, overwhelmed by the situation.

"Uhmmm... I was forced to come in here. Sorry about that," Aeris finally confessed, trying to find the right words. 

"I actually know you," Michimiya said.

"You do? I mean, we've met, right? Earlier," a surprised Aeris replied.

"Well, yes and no," Michimiya said. Aeris tilted her head in confusion, prompting Michimiya to add, "You're Kageyama Aeris, Takenodai's Ace, right? I'm a really big fan of you, well, the team is."

"Oh, really? Uhm... Thanks," Aeris blushed. "Why don't you meet the team?" Michimiya suggested, and Aeris had no choice but to follow her. "Girls, I want you to meet Kageyama Aeris," Michimiya said. All of them were surprised.

"The Kageyama Aeris?" the girls exclaimed. "From Takenodai?" another girl asked. "No way! The Kageyama Aeris in the flesh!" another girl said.

Aeris blushed deeply as she wasn't used to receiving compliments and felt shy when people praised her. She nervously looked at the group of girls standing before her. 

"So Kageyama-san,  this is Sindo Rinko, Aihara Mao, Sasaki Chizuru, Aoki Manami, Watabe Nozomi, Kikuchi Moe, Akiyama Natsuki, and Maeda Hitomi," Michimiya introduced.

Aeris took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. She mustered up a smile and greeted the girls in a friendly tone.

"Hi! Nice to meet you, girls," Aeris said. The girls exchanged glances with each other, clearly impressed by Aeris' polite and genuine greeting. They had heard so much about her skills and talent and had built up quite an image of her in their minds. But now, seeing her in person, they realized that she was not only talented but also humble and down-to-earth.

"So, what are you doing here, Kageyama-san?" Michimiya asked, curiously.

 "Oh, please, just call me Aeris," Aeris replied with a warm smile. "Nothing, I was just wondering why you guys are here, your home early" Aeris continued, 

They both looked around, the silence growing heavy in the air. Aeris noticed the melancholy expression on Michimiya's face. She couldn't help but feel a sense of understanding. "We lost," Michimiya said, her voice filled with disappointment.

Aeris tilted her head slightly, studying Michimiya's expression. "Why the sad face? It's okay to lose. You'll always win, no matter what, I mean you could still play in another round, it's not over yet." she replied with an encouraging tone. Michimiya stared at Aeris, her eyes filled with confusion.

"I mean, look at the boys," Aeris continued, a glimmer of excitement filling her voice. "They lost, yes, but they never gave up. They kept working hard and pushing themselves to improve. Isn't that admirable?"

Michimiya's eyes softened as Aeris's words sank in. "Yeah, because they have more support than us," Sasuki mumbled, bitterness evident in her voice. 

"Don't be like that, Chizuru-chan," Michimiya said, placing a comforting hand on Sasuki's shoulder. 

"I mean, you know," Chizuru said, her voice filled with jelousy. "The boys have two managers, a reliable coach, and a teacher who supports them. They have the whole court to themselves, while we have to share it with the basketball team."Sasuki's eyes welled up with tears. 

"I'm sorry, Aeris-chan. You came at the wrong time," Michimiya apologized, her voice heavy with sadness.

"Our team...we'll be disbanded. There will be no Karasuno Girls' Volleyball Club anymore. We're tired of fighting. We've been losing, barely surviving," Sasuki explained, her voice filled with despair.

The rest of the team couldn't help but join in the heartache, their eyes glistening with unshed tears. It was a devastating realization.

However, something ignited inside Aeris. She couldn't just stand there and watch her friends give up. She had an idea, a bold one that she felt compelled to share.

"I am sure you're going to win," Aeris declared, her voice unwavering.

Sasuki looked at her, her eyes filled with doubt. "And how sure are you?"

Aeris grinned, her eyes shining with high creativity. "Because I'll join your team. I won't let you lose, not on my watch."

"Ehhhh!!" The team exclaimed in unison, startled by her unexpected proclamation. The sudden outburst caught the attention of others around them, and the gym fell silent as all eyes turned to the girls.

Suddenly embarrassed by the attention, the team members blushed and quickly apologized. "Sorry for the commotion," Michimiya murmured, trying to diffuse the awkwardness.

Aeris, on the other hand, continued to stand tall, her resolve unshaken. "You mean you can join? " Michimiya said
